Re: Sight for the Blind for <100$

Thanks, yes that's a bit confusing, i created the standalone copy to preserve the old camera code, so its not used currently, just the raspivoice one is used.

Hi
It looks like the updated raspivoice.cpp didn't make its way into the git repo.

Re: Sight for the Blind for <100$

Having an update function from the menu is of course great. To do this cleanly, we need to first check for internet connectivity, and bug the user if that's not available . And, also check if there's actually new code or not, and what parts are updated (like core raspivoice etc) to avoid compiling w...

Re: Sight for the Blind for <100$

Thank you Mike, i'm glad that you like my updates!

I noticed that an updated confmanager.py was missing from the commit, i fixed that .
pyaudio can be installed by doing:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install python-pyaudio

Re: Sight for the Blind for <100$

Hi Pranav, You shouldn't actually need to sudo on the update command, since it does that on some parts internally. But, that can depend on other changes beeing made, so i think the best way to put it is that if you get error message when running After-Sight-Model-1/a-update_core.sh, put sudo. Also, ...

Re: Sight for the Blind for <100$

Ok, i have made an update. Firstly, the reason for the device not responding after holding the rotary to kill the apps, was a line: p.ChangeDutyCycle(0) #If the vibration motor was interrupted in an energetic config this should quiet it that was crashing the menu. I disabled that, and also for now d...

Re: Sight for the Blind for <100$

I'm rewriting bits of the webcamvideo module, it will check the camera when start is called and if its not ok then camera.start() will return False. Also, there will be a function to check if the camera is still ok, and also when camera.stop() is called the camera will be released. Will post it late...

Re: Sight for the Blind for <100$

After you have started raspivoice, You should be able to just turn the knob to "Toggle Teradeep" and press on it. To turn one of them off again, just press on the one you want to turn off. they work like toggles. Sometimes the rotary can miss a turn, just turn once more in that case, it shouldn't be...

Re: Sight for the Blind for <100$

Maybe, these cameras have audio support, that may create isues? One thing i did was enable USB audio to be the default if plugged. Try this: in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf there is the lines: # Keep snd-usb-audio from beeing loaded as first soundcard #options snd-usb-audio index=-2 Edit this file...

Re: Sight for the Blind for <100$

Peter Can you run these 2 commands from a terminal: sudo killall "python menu.py" sudo python menu.py This should relaunch the menu so you get terminal output, it will output a lot of stuff. But, i'm wondering what happens if you try to start raspivoice in this mode, are you getting any form of erro...

Re: Sight for the Blind for <100$

We no longer need to pull 7 frames, since the frames are pulled continueously in the background. Change this in menu.py there is the line: camera = WebcamVideoStream(src=camera_port, width=1280, height=720) #define where I dump camera This will change the camera property using opencv's mechanism for...

Re: Sight for the Blind for <100$

Do you have the camera plugged in when you boot, or do you plug it in later?
I choose that resolution, because i found that i got a bit unclean soundscapes (like the broken Technaxx that i have) with my other camera as well, this did not happen with the higher resolution.

Re: Sight for the Blind for <100$

Hi Peter, Does that camera support 1280X720? I changed the resolution in this image, because i got better results with the 2 cameras a tested, the Technaxx glasses, and another non branded camera board. Have you tried the Technaxx? If this causes isues, we might need a setting for the main camera re...

Re: Sight for the Blind for <100$

I'm currently updating the repository with my new code. Then, i'll take the opportunity to test some ideas of creating a script that compiles and copies code from the repository, so that we can do smaller updates without everyone having to dl the whole image. Just run the script. I'll test that to c...

Re: Sight for the Blind for <100$

So, i'm close to have the new image ready. Teradeep did release sample code to use the thnets library with the demo-apps model. I have been able to use that instead of torch, and that gives better performance i think. There is still a noticeable increase of gap between soundscapes when raspivoice an...

Re: Sight for the Blind for <100$

First of all, when i say that soundscapes are laggy i mean that we get a pause between them, but the data seems ok. It sould not be old data, i don't queue things up. We need the video thread, so that we have fresh frames from the camera. At least when using Opencv, it seems that you have to pull fr...

Re: Sight for the Blind for <100$

Hi Pranav!
Question is what should happen while we are waiting for the object detection? Should we play the same soundscape until the detection is finished and can be spoken?
