Re: Trouble mounting USB hard drive

I have the same problem- I have a 250Gb 2.5" hard drive from a laptop in an enclosure (carefully reformatted with NTFS) yet the RPi running Raspian will not show it although it reads happily both of two memory sticks. The HD is powered from a powered hub. Do I just give up or is there something I ca...

Thanks- followed your instructions and problem sorted. The config method within Raspian had failed twice before I asked for help!

Help with resizing SD card using Gparted please

http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/7642773320/
This an image of my 8Gb SD card in Gparted.
Can someone please advise how to resize the correct partition to allow me to make use of the unused capacity for additional apps? Is there no swapfile with the Raspian o/s?

Re: Raspbian - SD card space

Would be nice if somebody could give a paint-by-numbers instruction on resizing the SD card using Gpartd. Is there a swapfile which needs resizing or some other?

Re: Raspbian - SD card space

I have failed to resize my 4Gb SD card space twice using the method provided. It seems to start OK but soon freezes but with the green SD read activity light steady. Thinking I may have to resize using Gpartd

Re: Sound problems with new image

I believe, there is no difference if you use snd_bcm2835 or snd-bcm2835, they both should work. You can easily check if the modules where loaded using lsmod command, it should list snd-bcm2835 among other things. Is it loaded? And what exactly do you mean by "get sound working"? How do you try to p...

Re: Sound problems with new image

Using the config option hdmi_drive=2 as I am using a LCD monitor through a converter from the hdmi output of the RPi which means I should be using the RPi headphone output. Installed xine-ui and am trying to play an mp3 file copied to the SD card through a pair of powered speakers. Will check whethe...

Sound problems with new image

I am unable to get sound working with the new image. I swear there is a set-up panel somewhere which asks the user to choose but I can't find it now! I noticed that the typing of the line snd-bcm2835 may be incorrect. Shouldn't it be snd_bcm2835? I thought that this distro had sound built-in? Any ad...

Neat polycarbonate case

http://flic.kr/p/cjkXtq Made from odds and ends lying about- two sheets of clear polycarbonate and the square section pillars from 4 plastic chopsticks drilled through. There are 4 small solid round pieces from the thin end of the sticks glued with superglue to stop the Rpi from moving within its ca...

Re: Bootup display on 19" Samsung TV missing lefthand column

Apologies- I created a config.txt file and placed it on the root of the SD card but this time changed the left_overscan value to +10 (as opposed to 10) tried earlier. This has solved my problem. Thanks!

Re: Rpi for playing video mp4 files- not easy!

Nothing is as easy as one might wish! I had hopes of using the Rpi to play 1080p film files but I am beginning to think that this might not be possible. The test file with the Debian squeeze latest image plays just about OK but with no sound. I'm thinking it might need serious overclocking and maybe...

Re: Bootup display on 19" Samsung TV missing lefthand column

I have tried this but have concluded that it is not the answer. Whatever value I choose I get the same problem ie whatever black border I have on the left hand side of the screen I am missing the first typed letter or symbol in each row. I'm wondering whether it isn't a fault with the TV?

Rpi for playing video mp4 files- not easy!

I have been unsuccessful trying to use omxplayer to play mp4 video files though I can play the test video supplied with the latest Debian squeeze image. What am I missing here? Do I need to bother about Codecs etc?

Bootup display on 19" Samsung TV missing lefthand column

An add problem which may have no solution! I am trying to use a 19" LCD TV Samsung as a monitor but curiously during bootup and after displaying the homescreen I am missing just the first column of data which makes editing impossible! I have tried playing around with the screen format but as yet I h...

Re: eBay madness

There are almost certainly auctions where individuals do not yet have their ordered pi's but want to cash in the currently high prices and are listing "their" products. Expect to hear of buyers not getting their deliveries for many weeks and moaning to Ebay. Serve them right?

<t>The second unit sold on Ebay went for 200 quid this morning ie 40 quid less than the first one. I see a number of further units being offered. I'm wondering whether some individuals found a way of ordering multiple units perhaps by using different names, postal and email addresses and even Ebay i...

<t>I assume I will be able to use the 5.79Gb spare Linux swap partition to download files eg movie files and run them from the SD card? Re: Is my SD card going to boot when I get my RPi?

<r>I've attempted to make a new Kingston 8Gb (4) SD card bootable with the latest Debian image but am unsure whether it will boot in the Rpi when it arrives.
