Re: Connecting a tactile switch

Thanks. I found this link and I tried it and it worked. I ran the script before connecting the switch to make sure the GPIO was in output mode. https://raspberrypihq.com/use-a-push-button-with-raspberry-pi-gpio/ I found it better because the wiring was consistent with the instructions. The other lin...

Re: Printing to an RS232 using a USB cable

After a few trials I finally figured out how to compile the rastertoepsonsimple. I installed the printer, it was indeed /dev/ttyUSB0, but I keep getting an error about printer resolution. Option 'printer-resolution' has value '(unknown IPP tag)' and cannot be edited. I tried changing the paper size ...

Connecting a tactile switch

I need to connect a switch to the raspberry pi. I see some articles, put the switch between the ground and one of the GPIO ports with no resistors and others connect it between the +3.3V and one of the GPIO with a 220 ohm resistor. Some have more complex configurations. I realize that the programmin...

Re: Printing to an RS232 using a USB cable

Wow. Thanks. system-config-printer makes things look a lot easier. It is almost like Windows.
Now I have to try it with the printer and hopefully I can get it to work.

Re: Printing to an RS232 using a USB cable

How would I find what serial port the printer is on? I would be connecting using a serial to db9 cable and a db9 to db25 converter on top of that because that's what the printer has.

Re: Printing to an RS232 using a USB cable

Hi, I know it's been a while since I made this post, but now I am getting back to working on that project. I installed the libraries below as instructed sudo apt-get install libcups2-dev sudo apt-get install libcupsimage2-dev and downloaded the zip file from github and ran the setup scripts from sh ...

apache email notification

Hi, I noticed my pi seems to be trying to send notification emails and the email address that I was using was deleted. I looked in the contents of /etc/crontab.daily/logrotate and /etc/phpmyadmin/apache.conf and /etc/apache2/apache2.conf for any signs of my postmaster email, but I can't find it. I h...

Re: moving mysql database to a usb drive

In my case, the structure was there when I rebooted. It is just that when I corrupted the OS and had to use a new one that I found out that my database was not really there. I guess it is probably best to use it from where it is supposed to be.

Re: moving mysql database to a usb drive

Revisiting this issue after a disaster where I got the OS card corrupted, I think even though the database appears to be on the memory stick, the data might have been on the main card. I mounted the card on the pi after getting a brand new installation, I was able to mount the database and see a lis...

Re: Corrupted OS

/dev/sdb1 in your instructions: is it a typo or is the expectation that the recovered files are written on another card?

Re: Corrupted OS

Thanks. I will try it this evening. Since I've never done this before I don't know what to expect so I'll ask you another question. How can I point fsck to the certain superblock like you suggested?

Re: Corrupted OS

I tried fsck /dev/sda7

The file system size (according to the superblock) is 7891967 blocks
The physical size of the device is 6892032 blocks
Either the superblock or the partition table is likely to be corrupt!

I should mention that on this card I have osmc which boots fine

Re: Corrupted OS

Thanks people, I don't know what I would have done without you. If someone is willing to help without some smart ass comments, when I put the sd card in a USB adapter and put it in it automatically tries to mount it, but I get an error: error mounting /dev/sda7 at /media/PI/root: Command-line 'mount...

Corrupted OS

I managed to get my OS corrupted. It won't boot up. I have an old copy of the sd card. How can I mount the partition so I can salvage some files off of it. The files I need are on /var/www

Thanks

Re: moving mysql database to a usb drive

Thanks. That resolved my issue. I am now able to create tables.
For other people's reference, this is what I put in /etc/fstab:

Code: Select all

Re: moving mysql database to a usb drive

I tried different variations for the mount command, but I couldn't figure it out. i tried uid=mysql and tried UUID=mysql and -u mysql, but it doesn't work. Should I substitute mysql with some user name? I run mysql as root when I am creating the tables, but my applications have their own users to lo...

Re: moving mysql database to a usb drive

Following up on my question earlier. I mounted the USB stick using: sudo mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/usb and created the symbolic link. All is well except that when I try to create a table I get ERROR1005... can't create table (errno:13). I changed the permissions on database folder chmod +777 /mnt...

moving mysql database to a usb drive

Hi

I need to move one database to a USB drive rather than running it off the main sd card and shortening its life. There are many articles on other forums on how to move all the databases using the my.cnf file, but I just need certain databases. Is that possible?

Printing to an RS232 using a USB cable

Hi I have a project that uses an Epson TM-T88IV. Since it is an expensive printer, I don't want to mess around with wiring. I am thinking of using an RS232 to USB cable and plug directly in the USB port of the pi, but I am not sure of how to go about the driver part to make it work with cups. I am a...
