Re: Pi Zero new feature

Thank you Mr. Colon for a measured response.

My apologies to forum readers and Mr Heydt. As I said, I stated an Opinion - it was NOT a bashing, which would have instead been more like:

"I HATE this thing!! Why is it so &*$#@!! What are you people doing??!!!"

No - It was not that.

Re: Pi Zero new feature

Frankly my own wish isn't Zero-specific - but an OpenGL driver that can utilize the GPU of the Pi's to their fullest. I would consider that to actually be a power-bump-up for every Pi, since it always seems it otherwise has one hand tied behind it's back. That is being worked on. Since you want it ...

Re: Epiphany Browser Crashes Rather Frequently Jessie PI3B

Previously I would power on my PC to watch Youtube vids, but Chromium with the OMXPlayer add-on makes the RPi usable for me. I had installed kweb, but I had the same issues probably related to the backend webkit. The only issue with Chromium I've noticed is that when you choose a Youtube vid, you ha...

Re: RPi-youtube, smooth youtube videos on Chromium

Wow - great work! The ability to play a YouTube video so easily (smoothly) in OMXPlayer surmounts one of the biggest usability problems I had with the RPi. When I taught myself about Arduino, I would go to my PC and watch YouTube videos that helped me learn about it. Later, when I got my RPi2 - I wo...

Re: Connecting IPad and LAN

Curious what the RPi would provide that the iPad wouldn't - you should be able to just ask the hotel for password access to their wireless. If they only have a wired connection, then a small wireless AP (like $20) will give you a wifi hotspot in your room while plugged into their ethernet jack. As f...

Re: Overview of available LCD displays

I recently bought some cheap 1.8" and a 2.4" LCDs off ebay to try on Arduino and they work off 3.3v logic. I started with the assumption that they were 3.3v (since to err on the lower end is to not burn them out by mistake). I wouldn't trust the page description alone for specs. If you search YouTub...

Re: Overclocking Raspberry Pi 3

I pick up a RPi3 to play with and among the 1st things I noticed too - no overclock. After running the update/upgrades I tried some of my overclocked RPi2 settings but my wifi became unstable with the over_voltage or some other settings, so I pared-out almost every addition and only left a modest ar...

Re: Display Laptop to Raspberry Over Network

I assume the main laptop is a Windows PC (PowerPoint Presentation). You will likely have to tweak this since I only did this myself for "spitz-n-giggles" - not that I really needed it for anything so I did not explore it to great depth. But I wanted to see if i could use another PC (any PC actually,...

Re: TFT LCD 3.5" OSOYOO

Picked up one of these out of curiosity. Vendor did not provide any drivers or url info, so searched for a day to find a proper driver/img to get it working. It is a cute toy and probably has actual uses, but I find even the Pi setup screens are often too large to even see the "OK" and "Cancel" butt...

Re: Why is ARM so cheap, and x86 so expensive?

Sadly, a lack of competition is a detriment to the end-users, leaving them vulnerable to predatory practices, which is (after all) the goal of monopoly. The announcement that Microsoft will stop supporting Windows 7 or 8 on processors other than Skylake is another example of the Wintel collusion, no...

Re: Using EasyCap with UV4L

When I got my RPi2, I had an old EasyCap (empia2861 chipset) so I tried to see if I could get a picture using a cheap (i.e. eBay) TVL 640x480 working (RPi2->EasyCap->TVL). Well, I can say it "works" because there is a picture, but the quality looks like an old CRT TV scan and it exhibits screen tear...

Don't know about your root/rights problem, but as for Cut-n-Paste between Windows and RPi, I installed autocutsel on Raspbian http://www.nongnu.org/autocutsel/#download I am using X11VNC server on the RPi though, not TightVNC, but I didn't see a distinction made on that website. Re: Battery Power a Pi with Camera?

For anything to run long on a battery it would have to put the RPi to sleep when not used for it's purpose (like no movement detected). http://spellfoundry.com/sleepy-pi/sleepy-pi-faq/ However, you can see that this approach then requires the Pi to boot-up again, which can take 25-30 secs with a sta...

Spoke too soon. Just after posting about the inability to run anything with my emp28xx Easycap knockoff, I instead tried switching from a Raspbian SD to my Ubuntu Mate SD. Installed TVTime and like Raspbian it did not run. However, found a general Ubuntu posting that suggested mplayer, and it works ...

Just got around to trying this on my Pi2. No go. EMP28xx driver gives the dreaded green screen. The same Easycap knockoff with EMP28xx driver on a linux x86 PC works fine with TVTime. However, good to know that a Beaglebone has no problem. Rather than buy another RPi, I may instead just get a BB in ...
