HDMIPi Improvement?

I just ordered the B2 back, would have done so sooner if it had shown in the USA page. Now that the case cutting files have been open-sourced (yay!), who is going to be the first to make them in the States? And while I'm dreaming, I would like to get a replacement front plate, about 10 or so millime...

Re: RACHEL at home type deal?

That's the basic idea. I want something where I can stick a drive and a wireless adapter on a Pi, and plug it in, and preferably with little or no need for passwords etc., I can log on with other computers and access the files. A "turnkey" system, not the "type tremendous amounts of High Martian, an...

Re: RACHEL at home type deal?

Raspbian Wheezy Standalone takes less SD Card Space than Noobs. As above stated just create a simple web server: http://www.penguintutor.com/linux/light-webserver http://www.everydaylinuxuser.com/2013/06/setting-up-personal-web-server-on.html I think I'll look into Tonido; it doesn't look as though...

RACHEL at home type deal?

I have a model A I'd like to use with a WiFi adapter as a sort of RACHEL at home type deal, especially if I can add my own files, and preferably lose all Pi and RACHEL password/user nonsense- in other words, something that boots straight to work. I would like the ability to simply serve my own files...

Re: Two Projects in one?

Wow, such help! I'd prefer not to fool with refocusing or replacing the lens until I know I need to. I would prefer something I could use in both modes... desktop magnify and neighborhood NOIR action. The work I want to do is figure painting, so I can just hold the work closer to the camera as neede...

Consider using 3M Command fastener- what Velcro wants to be when it grows up.

Re: Two Projects in one?

Thanks!

Of course, I could always get a tablet etc. etc. but I *want* to put my Pi to good use... Plus, a 9" screen like the HDMIPi would make for a pricy tablet.

Do I need to refocus to use the specified lens, or just "go for it"?

Which leaves the software problem...

Two Projects in one?

The HDMIPi screen has a mount on its case to hold a RPi camera, which leads to the following idea... My eyesight isn't what it used to be, and I thought the ability to use the camera in macro mode would be helpful. I'm not seeing any links to a replacement lens for macro in the comments I have resea...

Re: The Raspberry Pi Model B+ Q&A thread

How do we connect to the RUN header- are those solder pads? Is the small round object near the R, a shutdown button? I have a use for Pi that will make it much more convenient if I can remote a shutdown button, you see. I'll be buying mine as soon as a certain wooden case gets stocked... especially ...

Thanks! Now, what do I need to buy? Assume crimping, no soldering- I no longer trust my eyesight enough for soldering. I looked for "headers" on Amazon, and there are about one bazillion variations. TIA!

Re: Two (perhaps) stupid questions...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/181162480813 is the item, but I wasn't sure if it was OK to post it here. You can see the pins. What I had in mind was to put magnets on one side of the plexi, and let it grip the screen on the other- the plexi is not all that thick, and I assume the case is of a magnetic ste...

Two (perhaps) stupid questions...

I would rather ask stupid questions than make stupid mistakes... SQ1) I just bought "HDMI+VGA+2AV+Audio Controller board VS-TY2668-V1+7inch 1024*600 AT070TNA2+Remote", a 7" screen for my Pi, off eBay. Would it harm it if I used magnets (like HD magnets) to hold it to a piece of plexi? I know magnets...

Low-light photography?

I had an idea for a project for the Raspberry Pi and the recently added "Raspberry Eye" ("The camera board" is just too clumsy a name). I live in Kentucky, USA and I know a place where there are holes in the ground, in limestone rock... call them "cavelets", that may open up into a real cave, for al...

Re: RaspBerry Pi(e) Model C (imaginations & wants)

Thanks for the info. Yes, I *did* mean a power-up, power down button. The Amazon dingus I listed is for (for our purposes) powering Pi's from a variety of (at least one and a half volts higher) power sources. I doubt a 9-volt will run a Pi long, although these buck converters are very efficient. On ...

http://www.amazon.com/LM2596-Converter-Module-Supply-1-23V-30V/dp/B008BHAOQO for $4.48 seems to power Pi's all right from a wide variety of sources... I just want my next Pi (well, not the one I ordered three days ago, of course!) to have a "safe power down" button. It can be one of those teeny tiny...

Many thanks for the info- I have an HDMI to HDMI and 3.5mm. adapter on its way now from Amazon... along with some other goodies. I was just going to (if it can be done) tell Linux to display a quarter turn in one direction or the other, then turn the screen to match. I am attempting to (when it arrives) turn a 17-inch HP flatscreen monitor into a media panel- perhaps even portable, so that with a Pi and a case, it can serve as if it were a laptop. Thumb Drive Access to Media?

I see ads for a thumbdrive you can buy which, while in use, will allow access to thousands of radio and TV stations, at least in Windows computers. You can buy 'em in Walmart, now... But I am deeply suspicious of them- it would be way too easy to put advertising and/or other malware on them, too. Pa...

HDMI Sound Takeoff?

I want to connect to the HDMI socket on a Raspberry Pi computer, and go to a monitor with DVI-D input. As I understand it, I will need some means of pulling the sound from the HDMI, and go around the soundless DVI-D input- probably with an RCA cable, since that is what the monitor has for purely aud...

Finding the Right Laptop Screen...

The recent Instructable about making a Pi into a Media Panel sounds pretty terrific to me, but there is a snag- finding the right laptop screen to do the job. For various reason, I need a screen that fits the following criteria: Outside width ("outline dimension") *no more than one foot wide, exactl...
