Re: Best solder sucker on Amazon?

Thanks. Got a generic solder sucker from a colleague (no name on it) and using that along with the braid. Seems to be working fairly well so far!

Re: Best solder sucker on Amazon?

Thanks for the reply. I was trying the braid, but it didn't seem to be pulling it up.

What is the difference between liquid flux and water-based flux? I can get the second locally.

Thanks!

Best solder sucker on Amazon?

What can you recommend? Looking for something not too expensive that just works.

Recover a deleted user and files in PiNet?

You can guess why I'm asking this question, but wondering if there is any way to recover a deleted user and her files in PiNet.... I've looked at docs and don't see anything but thought I'd put out the APB just in case!

Re: Need help on ISS streamer

WOOHOO! So I started over on a 32Gb SD, and combined the two tutorials, your advice, shook and stirred, and it's been running for an hour now! I only wish I knew what I did wrong, or why it's working now when it wasn't before, but hey.... If I'm ever in your area of the UK, I owe you several rounds....

Re: Need help on ISS streamer

For streaming video, how much memory should be allocated to the GPU? I experimented with different values (512 and up, 128 and down), but it didn't seem to make any difference. I'm now starting the whole process over again (sigh). Main difference is that I'm using a 32Gb SD card instead of 4Gb. Perh...

Re: Need help on ISS streamer

I already went ahead and updated and upgraded my card. The two players still didn't work. I'm loath to do a fresh install of the RPi OS because I had to make so many changes and installs on the current card and don't even remember all of them! Besides, it seems to me it should work on Jessie or what...

Re: Need help on ISS streamer

Thanks for all the help. I very much appreciate it! I got the videos to display correctly when I ran those lines at the terminal for both omxplayer and mplayer, so I'm not posting the feedback there. Re: Need help on ISS streamer

OK, had a chance to try the mplayer this AM. Got no errors, and it fed back all the same messages that omxplayer did, but it just hung after "opening the stream". No display ever. I rebooted and tried again, but same result. Interestingly, omxplayer did its "ending the process prematurely" thing, ev...

Re: Need help on ISS streamer

OK, thanks again. I reduced the type size in the terminal so it all fit on one line. It runs, but right after it says "Starting player: omxplayer", it says "error: failed to start player: omxplayer (Process exited prematurely)" and bumps me back to the command line. I've done a bit of googling the e...

Re: Need help on ISS streamer

Thanks for the reply!

Yes, it took a good amount of fiddling to get all the libraries and dependencies installed.

I tried your command in the terminal, but it just launched a new command line. (as in >).

Perhaps I messed something up, I'll keep trying.

Thanks again!

Need help on ISS streamer

I teach middle school computer science and took on the ISS streamer project because I thought it would be so cool to have this displaying the live feed in my classroom. I used these excellent tutes: https://collectivepi.wordpress.com/2017/01/04/streaming-nasa-iss-live-on-raspberry-pi/ and https://bl...

Big LED display?

I'm looking for a big LED display to use in my classroom. Suggestions?

Right now, I'm considering one of these from Adafruit -- https://learn.adafruit.com/32x16-32x32-rgb-led-matrix/

But is there a better idea?

Re: Newbie can't get video to work

Thanks for all the replies.

@waveform80 -- that was my fault on the parens. My original code has them.

Perhaps a Wheezy vs Jessie issue. My plan is to update PiNet to Jessie over the summer. Maybe I'll have to move that timeline up....

Using official camera module v2, Wheezy on PiNet. RP3 Python3 Here's the code I'm using: from picamera import PiCamera camera = PiCamera() camera. start_preview(alpha = 200) camera.start_recording('video.h264') time.sleep(10) camera.stop_recording() camera.stop_preview Still pix work fine. Re: Minecraft API updates?

It's a whole different code base, C++ rather than Java. So there's that.....

Which makes me wonder.... if the Raspberry Pi version of Minecraft, is the codebase C++, as with other PE and Windows editions? Hmm.

Minecraft API updates?

Just wondering if anyone knows the status of updates for the Minecraft Python API. It is such a fabulous resource, and I'd love to see it extended even further: mobs, entities, etc. If it's languishing, what about open sourcing it and putting it up on Github for the community to contribute to? I'm a...

Re: Is screencasting possible w/ the Pi?

OK, I did get that running. Thanks for the tip on enabling experimental graphics. It's pretty darn laggy and herky-jerky(technical term). So I'm not sure this will work well for a screen cast. Anything else on the Pi will probably work fine. I realize that live graphics over a vnc connection is tric...

Re: Is screencasting possible w/ the Pi?

I haven't ever been able to get Minecraft working with any VNC solution, so unless there's something I don't know about, that's not workable. The RealVNC Server that's included in Raspbian PIXEL will allow you to view Minecraft remotely, provided you tick the "enable experimental direct capture mod...

Is screencasting possible w/ the Pi?

I would love to do some YT videos for Minecraft Pi, Sonic Pi, etc. On the windows side, I use Screencastomatic, which works great. However, I'm not aware of anything that works on the Pi side. It would have to do accompanying audio as well, of course. Has anyone figured out a way to do this reliably...

Defective temp sensor on SenseHAT

I have a set of 20 SenseHATs which I bought from Adafruit last school year. I have only just started demoing the temp readings in an attempt to do some IoT stuff. In doing so, I found some HATs were reading wildly differently. Have done reading here and found that there were some issues with some of...

Re: Sense Hat temperature reading -200 degrees?

Just encountered the same thing in my PiNet middle school lab. I have 16 installed Pi3's, all with SenseHats. Temp readings are everywhere from 320C to -45C on different Pi's. I bought these last spring, but this is the first time I've played with the temp sensors. I'm hoping that I can get these re...
