Any automation projects for calling / dispatch??

Hi, I've been having no luck with trying to use keywords for searching this topic. My friend has an ancient (386 DOS based) system for auto dialing and broadcast messages to a select set of registered users for this non-profit group. Since there are tons of folks out there who use such systems for c...

Re: Lightweight python motion detection

Hi, Seeing that I still get notifications when items are posted to this thread I thought I'd add a quick comment here. While I found the python scripts/app to work OK I eventually stopped using this because I came across a more full featured app out there. should anyone else out there be interested ...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface

Freeing up space is always a good idea. I'll share some of my own trial-by-fire in case it proves helpful to others here. I use an external powered USB drive for storage so I'm not dependent on the SD card size limitations. Overall ,this has worked well for me and I think my instructions on how I se...

Boot up Trouble (temp space?)

Hi, I'm looking for any suggestions on how to repair my SD card or get things to a state where I can retrieve at least some info from my system. I ran a normal sudo shutdown but when trying to bring my Pi 2 B back online I never get past he startup screens. I get some sort of message about not havin...

Options for 15 pin cables??

Hi guys, I'm not all that handy with a soldering iron and was curious if anyone knew about options for the 15pin cables. I've seen multiple lengths of flat cables but what I'd really like is a thin round cable that just has 15pin flat ends. Does anyone know if such a thing exists and what I'd google...

Re: fstab problem: Cannot auto mount ntfs usb drive

Sorry, let me post an update to my last comment here with some edits. First off, this is the /etc/fstab entry you should use... UUID=4318FCF617CA42E9 /media/USBHD ntfs-3g defaults,auto,users,rw,uid=1000, gid=100,umask=0002 0 0 This will set up the user and write permissioning correctly. I'm running ...

Re: fstab problem: Cannot auto mount ntfs usb drive

My fstab file is similar to yours. You have this... /dev/sda1: UUID="4318FCF617CA42E9" TYPE="ntfs" Mine would look like this... UUID=4318FCF617CA42E9 /media/USBHD ntfs-3g defaults,auto,umask=000,users,rw 0 0 I don't hink you want to reference /dev/sda1as that can change if you change which USB port ...

Re: Lightweight python motion detection

I've started testing my configuration and have run in to some sort of snag. I'm not sure if anyone else is experiencing anything similar. I created a shell script to load the camera during startup and then added an entry in to crontab so that the camera automatically restarts at reboot. I had been t...

Re: Lightweight python motion detection

I'm making a bit of progress and thought I'd share some details with the group. Spike mentioned previously that there seem to be issues with trying to constantly write to an SD card. Here is how I set up a USB drive to work with my Pi and camera. Pre-req: If ntfs support is not yet installed run sud...

Re: Lightweight python motion detection

The pmd.py file does not need ot be executable. At least it's not set up that way on my Pi right now. I just run python pmd.py In order for this to load correctly you must configure the file a bit first. If you haven't done that run sudo nano pmd.py You'll need to define the directory where the file...

Re: Lightweight python motion detection

Interesting note there about the Micro SD card. I'm not sure that SSD is truly within the budget for myself or most folks. Unless you've had luck with using USB Key fobs. (Either way an externally powered multi-TB USB ext enclosure is likely less than the cost of a 128 or 256gb SSD). Is there a perf...

Re: Lightweight python motion detection

Spike. So it seems the "$ sudo python pmd.py &" spawns two processes. I tried removing the sudo as you suggested using just "$ python pmd.py &" and things look fine. I suppose running is as the local user is perhaps safer as well. Question: If I execute the command and let it record normally what ha...

Re: Lightweight python motion detection

OK, time for more questions. :) I've gotten the python script installed but wasn't quite sure about how things are loading up. I'm running "sudo python pmd.py &" manually whihc throws the process in to the background. When it launches it give me a PID... however it seems that a second is created as ...

Re: Lightweight python motion detection

Quick request... I'm new to Pi and just getting under way. Given that I'm playing Catch-up on this thread can anyone help out on where to start? What is current version of Killagregs work? Is it all in one file here or somewhere on github, etc..?? Are there any docs on what I need to install (apt-ge...
