Re: Kernel panic
I had the same problem. Tried 5 different SD cards now, including ones that "do work" on the list. I can get Arch Linux running, also Rasbmc, but Debian is just too flaky/fussy and won't boot. Weird. Gave up on Debian.

Re: SD card dramas
Have fun! Sounds like you've earned it. Here's an idea - try connecting the board directly to the mains power supply - 110 (or 220) volts AC - and see what happens. Best to wear protective eyewear while doing this.. the funny thing is, I was such a RPi fanboy over the past few months, I even starte...

Re: SD card dramas
I just loaded the stock Debian image onto the Kingston 8gb class 6 using ANOTHER computer's card reader/writer as suggested, and yep - you guessed it.... mmc0: -110 error I added the updated firmware: start.elf and kernel.img, same result. SO: the results of my tedious weekend: * Have tried 4 SD car...

Re: SD card dramas
I've tried a Sony 850mA power plug, I've tried an LG 750mA plug, and an unknown-brand 1A usb wall plug. Not working with Debian. Or Rasbmc. -110 card error etc. Debian image is correct, image installs properly using Win32DiskImager. Yes to Arch image. Boots fine. WTF. Who wants a Pi that doesn't work?

Re: Make it EASY for noobs
there are lots of people who, like me, can't even get their Pi working due to the flaky SD card situation. I have tried 4 cards, spent 12 hours trawling fora, Arch works but Debian doesn't.
So yeah, more support for noobs is needed. Lots of us are massively disappointed and frustrated.

Re: SD Card boot issues
Before you get all 'fancy' with firmware updates, etc I would start from a freshly formated SD card and use win32diskimager with the debian190412 image. Once you get that started you can play around with updates, etc. My 2 cents, Texy Have tried exactly this with 4 different cards. Many times. Stil...

Re: Debian Won't Boot: mmc0 Timeout
I have exactly the same issue. There's clearly a massive problem here! We are not alone it seems, lots of people can't get their Pi to boot, even using approved cards. Very flaky.

Re: SD card dramas
So, I've spent the last 6 hours trying all four cards with different images of Raspbmc (the author of which is releasing more images to overcome his own SD card issues). Guess what? They start to work, it contacts the Raspbmc servers, downloads new data, needs to reboot.... then... mmc -110 error (e...

Re: SD card dramas
Arch seems to have worked! At least this demonstrates that Debian has problems, not my cards.
I got to the login part, I seem to have logged in (user/pass: root and root) but I'm left with a command prompt. I take it Arch has no desktop/GUI? (/Linux noob)

Re: SD card dramas
I've just replaced all the main files from https://github.com/Hexxeh/rpi-firmware on the SD card (the Kingston 8gb that supposedly works). Again, I get the coloured splash screen, but now it just says: Problem reading SD status register mmc0: -110 error whilst initialising card while looping. What s...

Re: SD card dramas
Right, after trying 4 SD cards I've discovered on another thread that you can manually update firmware by going to the Github/Rpi site, download kernel.img and start.elf and use them to overwrite older files after loading your image onto SD. Done. I've replaced them on two different Debian attempts ...

Re: Three SD-cards, three issues [Solved]
indeed, the current build of the debian image seems to have issues with some of the cards in the list. It would be good if they uploaded a new one that includes those kernel updates from github so that less people panic how do you do that? I've gone to the Github link above, I can't see how I can g...

Just wanted to add: I've just tried the last SD card left in the house. Image written successfully, as per instructions. A 16gb class 10 Pretec. Yep - KernelPanic error: not syncing: VFS: etc.
I'm fuming...so I'm going out for a walk to cool off! lol

SD card dramas
Hi all, I've now tried three SD cards and can't get my brand new Pi (arrived yesterday) to boot up properly using the latest Debian image (debian6-19-04-2012). 'Frustrated' is an understatement. The three are Kingston 8gb (c6), Tachyon 4gb (class unknown), Sandisk 2gb (c2). Two of those three cards ...

Re: Unable to mount root fs
I have the same problem. My Pi has just arrived and I want to get it going. Got the new Debian image. I get '-110 errors', Kernal Panics, and now 'No filesystem could mount root'. I've tried 2 different SD cards now, including a Kingston that is supposed to work. Really disappointed that I have to m...

mmc0 -110 error....(repeat x 100000000) before saying 'Kernal Panic'.
WTF. Really disappointed.

So it seems that you've made a standalone OS? If you use a wifi dongle, can I send music and video to the Pi from another I don't know if I get you right. Squeezeplug RPi is designed fo a LAN connection or you can use Wifi with a separate USB dongle. The music can be stored on an directly attached ...

Thanks for your reply...I will watch the video shortly.

I'm a noob and just wondering if I install the standard Debian OS on my Pi or try your handiwork....
Thanks

Re: SqueezePlug for Raspberry Pi ready for download
I'm very interested in this, but I'm not quite sure what I would be installing. Ideally, I'm wanting my Pi to play music off a USB hard drive, and output it all through my amp. Will this do what I want it to? I tried watching the video but the video and audio seemed out of sync on the mp4 file....an...

yes, I'd echo that.
AFAIK, you can get iphone4 replacement screens (high-res) for about $17. Sounds perfect.
