Re: Help needed disabling password authentication. SSH/PwnPi

Just had a poke around /init.d/ssh. Is this what I need to change:

Code: Select all

check_config() {
    if [ ! -e /etc/ssh/sshd_not_to_be_run ]; then
        /usr/sbin/sshd $SSHD_OPTS -t || exit 1
    fi
}
(completely guesswork btw)

Re: Help needed disabling password authentication. SSH/PwnPi

What I often do in this case is to add a nonsense line in the config file, then restart the daemon. If it doesn't bother, then something's wrong. And if it's you case, try looking for other places using find. After adding to the config file it made no change. I've narrowed it down and I've learned ...

Re: Help needed disabling password authentication. SSH/PwnPi

My config is in /etc/ssh. Any suggestions on how I could test if the daemon is reading it?
Thanks for the help.

Re: Help needed disabling password authentication. SSH/PwnPi

I should probably mention that Its a fresh install and all I've done so far is updated/upgraded, created a new user, added it to sudoers, changed passwords and created public/private keys. Am I missing a piece of the install procedure somewhere?

jojopi wrote:Your sshd_config looks good to disable passwords. Have you told sshd to reload its settings (or restarted it, or rebooted) since you changed the config file? At minimum you need "sudo service ssh reload".
Unfortunately, yes. No joy though.

Help needed disabling password authentication. SSH/PwnPi.

Hey all. I've been reading up on securing ssh communication by employing the use of public/private keys. I have my keys setup perfectly but I just can't seem to disable password authentication. I'm not the best linux user so please bare with me if I'm overlooking something well obvious. After follow...

Re: Opening/closing a serial port

Which Arduino is everyone using? I have a revision 2 Uno and I can't get it talking with my pi for love nor money. Something to do with ftdi chips not been used on the later revision Unos. If anyone can help me I'd be very happy.

Re: Help needed with pyserial (Arduino)

No joy. Seems to be a driver issue. Looking into alternative interfacing now.

Re: Anyone else having trouble connecting an Arduino?

From what I can tell I have an R2 Uno. Can anyone else confirm this board working with a Pi? Any suggestions on another way to communicate with the Arduino over serial in a way thats safe and easy? I'm still a bit of a noob and I'd hate to write off my Pi and have to wait again. I'm not that bothere...

Anyone else having trouble connecting an Arduino?

I've been trying to get my Pi and Arduino working together for some time now. Despite my best (although noob) efforts, I've had no luck getting them talking. I've followed countless guides and read all the comments and most people seem to get it up and running with no hassle what so ever. I original...

Re: Help needed with pyserial (Arduino)

Thanks again hexelpdkk. I'd kinda come to a similar conclusion. Just tried installing the arduino ide using this http://raspberrypi.homelabs.org.uk/raspberrypi-the-arduino-development-tool/ . The ide works fine up until you try to communicate with the board. In the tool bar 'serial port' is greyed o...

To hexelpdkk. Tried the code you posted. Still same error.
Hope this is some use -

Re: Help needed with pyserial (Arduino)

Quick update - Tried the above suggestion of adding user to dialout group but still received the same error message. Tried running with sudo. No change. Tried a fresh install of the debian image, installed pyserial and added user to dialout group. Still getting same error. My test program and arduin...

Re: Help needed with pyserial (Arduino)

Yeah sorry. Should of mentioned I'm connecting using the standard USB on the arduino. Cheers for the quick responses, I'll have another crack at it later. If anyone has the time to post a 'noob friendly' guide on this subject I'm sure it would go down well. I'm very new to programming so having a li...

Help needed with pyserial (Arduino)

I've seen a few posts now where people have got an Rpi talking to an arduino using pyserial. I use python/pyserial to send serial data to my arduino on my laptop (ubuntu) with no problem. When I come to do the same thing on my Rpi I have no such luck. I installed pyserial from the terminal with sudo...
