Re: How to send PI OpenVPN Server Logs to Syslog Server

This line was by default listed in the openvpn server.conf to post entries into the openvpn server log

/var/log/openvpn

In order to route this entry to the syslog server, I had to remark

# log /var/log/openvpn

Now, the log entries are sent to the syslog server I had defined in rsyslog.conf

Re: openvpn no internet

thanks for all the info, I will do more testing from outside the network and post the logs if it still doesn't connect but just a quick question: my ovpn file says remote 192.168.1.200 1194 so I change it to my dynamic dns remote myname.dns.com 1194 just to make sure the dynamic dns is working I op...

Re: openvpn no internet

At least based on my own experience, it should work (for testing) on your local network or on a public network (the latter of course being best, as it's a real-world test). Mobile data should be fine too for that, as it's a separate network. From your home network, you're basically going out onto t...

Re: openvpn no internet

Testing from within VPN network isn't really a good idea making it more difficult to identify the problem. Change the current log level in the OpenVPN server configuration to 'verb 3' to increase granularity of the log info. Make sure you have IP forward enabled on your PI “net.ipv4.ip_forward = 1” ...

Re: openvpn no internet

To me this looks like you would be testing on the very same local network the Raspberry Openvpn Server is installed? Why would you do that? Can you perform a test from a network somewhere else a public network or from the office? It's probably just that. I am using my mobile phone as Internet gatewa...

Re: How to send PI OpenVPN Server Logs to Syslog Server

Apparently rather simple at the end. Before I had a defined a standard log log /var/log/openvpn simply removing the line passes it on to syslog messages log and since I defined my own local rsyslog server in rsyslog.conf it now passes the data on to the local server. Amazing how long I searched for ...

Re: How to send PI OpenVPN Server Logs to Syslog Server

Try https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=openvpn+logging+syslog there's millions of hits. Thx Dougie. I did already a decent amount of research across the info out there but either I did not understand it, it did not apply or I did not know how to adapt it to my particular raspberry. I was hoping some...

How to send PI OpenVPN Server Logs to Syslog Server

With the OpenVPN server running on Pi I get two log files in /var/log openvpn-status.log and openvpn.log and I would like that content or at least important alerts forwarded to the a local Syslog server on the same network but was able to figure out how. I am receiving other logs from PI already but...

Re: Rasberry pi 2 doesn't work

I had a similar issue with an older SD cards. In my case the card was just not working well with Raspberry while it showed no issue with other devices. Perhaps, this is a similar issue and you just need to try another brand or type

Re: Set Static IP address but also getting Dynamic

Your Raspberry Pi only has one address in the 192.168.77.0/24 subnet. (And a different one for the VPN tunnel.) Can you ping 192.168.77.1? Can you ping 8.8.8.8? Yes, that is working, I could not ping the DHCP address of eth0 anymore but essentially, the only issue appart from that is that eth0 has ...

Re: Set Static IP address but also getting Dynamic

I did not have dhcpd5 installed but removed the raspberrypi-net-mods..unfortunately. no improvement. I am still getting two IP, one static one dynamic on eth0 Since I am using the box as OpenVPN server, I am not sure if I can go ahead and remove some of the dhcp packages without breaking the IP addr...

I've purged those two (along with isc-dhcp*) and replaced them with network-manager & dhcpcd.
Would this also work for a OpenVPN environement since I need DHCP for the VPN clients?

Re: iptables broken after recent firmware upgrade

Issue gone with reflashing. I see now the NAT policy again. What is the best command to display all and every active iptable policy? Apparently I was mistaken believing that the -L would suffice.

Re: iptables broken after recent firmware upgrade

I started flashing my card again with the factory image in the meantime. Perhaps the issue disappears. Since you had no issues, it's probably an issue with my particular installation. I'll post a note once I've completed the procedure.

Recently upgraded to firmware 3.18.13+ #784 PREEMPT Sat May 9 15:49:42 BST 2015 armv6l suning rpi-upgrade command and noticed that some iptables functions behave differently. No matter what iptable modifcations are done none of them are visible but seem to be working. While I was able to see all act...
