What do you mean by "proprietary"?
just an e-learning software platform that you've developed....versus the videos/programs that come already come included on the Rachel PI stick (eg: Khan Academy)

Maybe something like Rachel-Pi (http://pi.worldpossible.org/)? it seems like you'd still have to plug-in the compact to a local network or wireless router....or am i mistaken? can you load your own proprietary educational content system there? it seems every Rachel PI comes with fixed/pre-set cours...

I was reading this thread and a lot of folks are assuming that the student's school has a server hosting the information. The issue is in developing countries, internet is not reliable and thus the application has to be run locally....unfortunately educational videos take up hundreds of GB of space ...
