Re: Moving zip files in raspberry pi

I have a rpi with hassio on it. I moved a zip file from my mac into the rpi over scp: scp file.zip user@ip:/config and the file moved over just fine. Then I moved it to another directory which is where i need it: mv file.zip /custom_components and when I went into custom_components, the file was no...

Re: MSOffice on a Pi-400

Don't forget that the users on this forum are a tiny subset of total Pi users. It's a bit of an echo chamber, in that people most likely to post a lot on here are more likely to be anti-MS, so I don't think its a safe extrapolation to apply the same to the general Pi populace. Given that most peopl...

Hi Does anyone know if Pi Modules (https://pimodules.com/) is still trading? I ordered a module from them months ago and can't get any response despite their web page still appearing to be active. Thanks No one here is likely to know their status. You may want to do some research to see if you can ...

Re: MSOffice on a Pi-400

But whether MS see any advantage in allowing this remains to be seen. They have a far larger ARM market - the Apple M1 - to deal with at the moment. Larger, yes, but I'm not so sure about "far larger". So far as i know, Apple's share of the PC/laptop market has been hovering around 10%. W...

Re: Why is my hard drive full?

Why is this drive full? df shows it has 9.1T space and 8.6T is used, and then only 58Mb is free. Can the journal take up that much space? The only thing on the drive are 86 fiiles of size 101 Gb. So maybe they take up more blocks because they are so large? I'm assuming you really mean file sizes of...

Re: MSOffice on a Pi-400

Here's the real question I'd like answered: What will be the cost of a Windows 11 on ARM license? Historically, retail windows home licenses have been in th $100 to $150 price bracket. Is anyone likely to be willing to pay that to run Win11 on a $35 computer? As for MS Office, I don't use that on m...

Re: MSOffice on a Pi-400

I thought the RPI project was all about getting real computing back into schools to recreate the BBC Micro age and explosion in IT understanding with the resultant benefit to the economy. But if the Pi-400 will only be allowed in with Win11/MSOfffice then the project is doomed. There's a lot more t...

Re: I'm new here, need a guide!

Questions about the Raspberry Pi or Linux operating systems, I would start with Google.com or a search engine website. There are numerous websites, and guides on the internet that will show you how to use a Raspberry Pi computer. People have their own computer ideas that involve the Raspberry Pi. T...

In terms of total number of ARM-based desktop PCs sold, would the Pi 4B and 400 market share be large or small? I don't actually know any other device one might want to install ARM Windows on. Total PCs...desktop and laptop...systems sold is on the order of 100 million per year. I haven't seen figu...

I love the raspberry pi. I really like the pico, but I have a dream. Take the raspberry pi 4, expand the board to micro-atx form factor. Make the ram replaceable. Add an M.2 slot or two. Perhaps a bit more io, use a really powerful arm processor, compatible with raspberry pi os, but on par with a g...

Re: Toms Hardware / Eben Upton / Pi Cast

So, took life in hand and spoke to Eben about this. We have suspicions that the software used for the streaming might be a bit pants - it sounds muddy and dull compared with using the same laptop mic on Zoom for example. He's going to try a headset to see if it helps. Thanks a bunch for bringing it...

I have to agree with the comments on the video...Eben's sound is poor. He needs better...something. Mic? Environment? One tends to lose an average of about one word in three. Re: Raspberry Pi Geocache Project

I will be including a port for an external battery hook up. Most every electronic Geocache would have a slot for either a 9v battery or a portable phone charger. I'd recommend you use something like a Pico with a SPI LCD instead. A regular Pi is going to take a while to boot, be picky about power a...

Re: Can the Wifi and Bluetooth be physically removed from a R-Pi 4 board?

This whole thread, and the need for it in some instance is why I wish that a PI2Bv1.4 would be developed. Keeping the default clock speed down (so it runs with needing added cooling) would be fine by me. It'd just be a Pi4B without WiFi/BT.

I bought Adapter Display Por to HDMI but it didn't work. I'm not surprised. There are a number of converters that are one direction only. Conversion between HDMI and VGA works that way as well. Converting between HDMI and DP is unidirectional in most cases. You need an HDMI to DP converter. (All th...
