Re: Use official Pi Wifi USB dongle on Windows desktop

It should work by just plugging it in. I used it while i was waiting for my ethernet cable to ship and just plugged it in and it worked fine (Windows 8.1 64bit). You're talking about the one called the "Wi-Pi" correct?

Dummy Cam for Raspberry Pi

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a housing unit for my raspberry pi. The project is a security system so the housing unit must look like a camera and be able to fit - 1 Raspberry Pi - 1 Wi-Pi (4cm, shorter when plugged in) - 1 Raspberry Pi Camera - Have space for power cord The camera must ...

Wait, has it been added to NOOBS or not? Not sure what you meant.

Re: startx not working

. . . this is the first time using the ARM version and haven't had a config that allowed X to start, so no option to 'go back'. I would like to recommend Raspbian, unless there is a specific reason you want Arch and i3? If you want Arch, load from a default Arch image and get it working with the de...

Re: startx not working

Is it possible that using a HDMI to VGA converter for my screen could of caused an issue? Sure. But, it could be a host of other issues too. Should I upload the whole file? You need to look through the log file... and understand it. You are running into the issue everyone hates (with video) and tha...

Re: startx not working

... looks like your X server is not starting (no X server, no window manager). What does your Xorg log file have in it? Usually will give you way more info about why the X server did not load, or crashed, whatever. It did mention Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration. no screens fou...

startx not working

So I'm trying to setup i3wm on a fresh install of Arch using the RPI 2. So the first thing I did was download the img from https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=754332#p754332 and then when written to my sd card I started up Arch with no problem. I then updated the system pacman -Syu Th...

The official download requires a Linux Machine, the Arch developers decided last June to stop offering images: Raspberry Pi ARMv6 http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv6/raspberry-pi Raspberry Pi 2 B ARMv7 http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv7/broadcom/raspberry-pi-2 ..which makes it harder than ...

Re: HDMI to VGA Converters for Raspi

I'm using a normal HDMI (Male) to VGA (Female) converter and it works fine. The one I'm using is this:

http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00C0Y6 ... ge_o01_s00

So the issue probably isn't that you need a powered converter.

Re: Yet Another Defective Camera?

MCM saw this post and said they'd send me a replacement. If this one also has an issue then it could be the Pi as Dougie suggested. The cameras are static sensitive - any chance it has had a jolt? It was kept in the anti static bag when not in use. And rarely touched. Has anyone suggested trying the...

yes. its fragile so it may have defect/cuts which cannot be seen easily. Hmm, if the worst comes to the worst I'll buy one. But I'm hoping it's not an issue with the hardware. I'll wait to see if anyone else has some issues. EDIT: I used the ribbon cable from the other camera and still get the same...

Re: Yet Another Defective Camera?

That should be ok, assuming it works as stated. I still feel there's some either problem - either the camera module itself or the cable. The way to eliminate the second is to buy another cable and test it. Can you do that? They sell 2 short cables for ~$5 on amazon/ebay. Do you mean the ribbon cable?

check the power supply again. remove and re-insert the camera cable at both ends. also try a different cable if you have one. Tried a different power supply, and re-inserted the camera. Yet Another Defective Camera?

So I have a Raspberry Pi 2 from MCM electronics and I also purchased a camera module. That camera wasn't working (link here https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=103572). I was wondering what method this actually used to stream the video. For example I've seen it being done with VLC, obviously that is not the case here. The main page is a simulated stream. raspimjpeg continuously produces medium resolution jpegs in a ram folder /run/shm/mjpeg/cam.jpg. The main Index...
