Re: How to use predictable network interface names in combination with initramfs?

So, to answer my own question, hopefully helping someone else in the process: According to this info here: https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/PredictableNetworkInterfaceNames/ , all I had to do on Raspbian Stretch is disable systemd's "Predictable interface names" feature by editing /...

[SOLVED] How to use predictable network interface names in combination with initramfs?

Hello! I am trying to use initramfs alongside predictable interface names on a RPi 3 B+ on a freshly Ethched 2019-04-08-raspbian-stretch-lite. If I comment out the line initramfs initrd.img-4.14.98-v7+ in /boot/config.txt everything works as expected: I have created /etc/network/interfaces.d/eth0 wh...

Re: [SOLVED] Trouble configuring Raspbian Lite for pubkey auth SSH with PUTTY (Windows) generated key

Just to expand a little on this "copy PuTTYgen key via Windows' clipboard" issue: I tried on a Windows as old as XP, and with the file provided in the above post the behaviour is exactly the same from XP to Win 10 1809 - great, when you think about the timespan involved here! Anyway, turns out all o...

Re: Trouble configuring Raspbian Lite for pubkey auth SSH with PUTTY (Windows) generated key

Thanks to all who replied to my thread here! I found where my problems are rooted, and its not even funny. Turns out it was totally a file transfer problem, like most of you suggested... I have a reproducible case of Windows 10 1809 OS Build 17763.437 "clipboard failure", and I am thinking about how...

Re: Trouble configuring Raspbian Lite for pubkey auth SSH with PUTTY (Windows) generated key

Have to ask: 1) Did you copy all of the key inc key type / key / machine name? 2) Did you mix up the public / private part? Well, that's the point - on systems now years old and still rocking on solid, all I had to do is fire PUTTYgen on my Windows machine when I decided it was time to renew my SSH...

Re: Trouble configuring Raspbian Lite for pubkey auth SSH with PUTTY (Windows) generated key

I’ve compared it to my Stretch and the file created by my Mac and the rights look fine ... Are you able to SSH to your Pi using only the public key authentication and no entering of passwords? And you mention a Mac - can you test with Windows PUTTY generated key, because.... that is what is not wor...

[SOLVED] Trouble configuring Raspbian Lite for pubkey auth SSH with PUTTY (Windows) generated key

Hello, everyone! Somewhat experienced user here - I'm trying to configure a freshly written Raspbian Lite image to enable passwordless login using public key authentication using already present PUTTY generated key, and am failing miserably at it. On a stock Raspbian Lite just-written-image I only s...

Re: [HOWTO] Using BTRFS root on stock Raspbian with Pi 2

Your question kind of already contains the answer - I'm using tar to create a tarball archive and then store it on a file server, on another file server and a copy on optical media. So, by having a tar archive of my whole filesystem, I am basically covered for anything, and my only loss would be the...

Re: Backup SD card image to USB disk while Raspberry is runn

I use BTRFS as root file system on my RPi2, which acts as a home appliance controller, and BTRFS allows snapshotting, backing up the snapshot, etc.

Check how I did it here: viewtopic.php?f=29&t=104108

Not exactly an .img file ready to go to a SD card, though...

Re: [HOWTO] Using BTRFS root on stock Raspbian with Pi 2

You assume that raspbian comes with working defrag - to my amusement, I found out the hard way that the tools for keeping btrfs up to snuff that come with raspbian are in fact ancient - they date to one of the first versions ever released. To get to this info I had to run my scripts manually to see ...

Re: [HOWTO] Using BTRFS root on stock Raspbian with Pi 2

Thanks for your comment. My aim in using BTRFS is snapshotting and space saving, so by going the route backup->format to btrfs->mount with compress->restore I believe I achieve the compression I desire, which I am not sure btrfs-convert would provide, but this needs to be checked further. As for you...

[HOWTO] Using BTRFS root on stock Raspbian with Pi 2

Raspberry Pi 2 Model B with BTRFS root (for live system backups) NOTE: Using swap file is not possible on BTRFS filesystem yet. If you want to use swap file - you will have to make another partition either swap or some filesystem which supports swap files. 1. Go to http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloa...

Re: OWFS and w1 not working after upgrade

I'm currently experiencing just that - delay, huge delay, and on top of that - one sensor missing. My setup: I have Raspberry Pi 2 with 4 waterproof DS18B20 sensors (the ones in a metal can on a flying lead) connected to the Pi like shown here link . Yesterday I was able to make a Python script that...

Re: [SOLVED] Using an initramfs on the RPi.

The script I posted above makes a snapshot of the entire / (root) partition, and then makes an archive from the snapshot. This means, that you are actually getting a "picture of the FS from a precise moment in time". And that is one of the features I require BTRFS for the systems I use - it is reall...

@sagir3: Thank you for the detailed instructions. I, however, in the time between posting my question here and your answer, found this article: http://blog.drewwithers.com/2013/11/raspberry-pi-usb-raid1-root-partition.html I used it for the part where some kernel module is loaded during boot - btrfs...

Re: [SOLVED] Using an initramfs on the RPi.

Well, trying the stuff mentioned in this thread did not help me make Raspberry Pi 2 load the BTRFS kernel module via initramfs, so no root BTRFS filesystem for me, yet... Anyways, what is one supposed to put in the dir which gets compressed to initramfs.gz? I just copied btrfs.ko but it did not help...
