I use WeMo switches and Ouimeaux to control them. I have some code that checks for environmental variables (temperature, sunrise, sunset, humidity, electricity prices) and then controls switches based on them. I just put together my first Python code. Using the Pi, I was able to calculate sunrise and sunset, determine the current temperature from weather underground, and determine the current price of electricity. I got pianobar working without the need for a TLS certificate in the config file. I posted the steps I took here.
