Re: Possible to map RPi folder as network drive?

Hi. Sorry was out of town for a bit. Ok so thank-you weissjd. I tried your suggestion using cmd. I am prompted to enter the user name for 'raspberry pi'. To me this seemed like it's asking me for the credentials for the Pi itself so I entered the username and password for my Pi but it says that netw...

Re: Possible to map RPi folder as network drive?

The tutorial doesn't go into any detail on how to actually map the directory from Windows. Other than that I have been able to follow the steps exactly. But as I explained in a previous post, I'm not even sure what the path for the mapped directory should look like. I do get asked for credentials if...

Re: Possible to map RPi folder as network drive?

Has anyone ever done this themselves? If so can you explain how to map the directory as a Windows network drive? I think I have faithfully followed all the steps to set up the RPi and seem to be failing only on the actual mapping where for some reason it doesn't like the credentials I am entering. I...

Re: Possible to map RPi folder as network drive?

Thanks. That's actually the latest tutorial I've been working from. :) It doesn't specify as far as I can see whether I'm supposed to be sharing the RPi folder as a network drive or by some other means so thanks for confirming that. And actually that raises another question. For my purpose, allowing...

Possible to map RPi folder as network drive?

I'm a newbie. Just getting that out of the way. I'm on my third attempt to set up my RPi to allow my PC to back up to a USB hard drive connected to the RPi. I've tried a bunch of different tutorials and always run into problems, usually with credentials as far as I remember. I have a general questio...

IPad-Pi VNC troubleshooting

According to this tutorial and others I can use my iPad to view and control my Pi using SSH and a VNC viewers on the iPad: http://whatapalaver.co.uk/2013/12/controlling-raspberry-pi-from-ipad/ Following that tutorial I have done the following: - install and run tightvncserver - install RealVNC VNC V...

Re: Can see wireless networks but can't connect

The bad news is I can be impatient. The good news is that means I reflashed Raspbian, fired up the Pi and connected to my wireless network no problem. The other good news is that now I'm trying to control the Pi from an iPad and, of course, as I follow the various tutorials that blythely explain how...

Re: Can see wireless networks but can't connect

Hi Dougie. I think I've addressed these in previous posts but happy to clarify: Is 192.168.1.1 your router? Yes Can you ping it? Yes Can you ping 8.8.8.8 through it? No Can you resolve google.com to an IP address and ping it? No Pi can see all devices on the local network and they can see the Pi. Al...

Re: Can see wireless networks but can't connect

It is connected to the router via cable right now. I tried pinging 8.8.8.8 with all packets lost. Sorry forgot to mention that. What is sudo route? When I use that command I get NIL as result. EDIT: Did route -n . Is that what you meant? Results: Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask F...

Re: Can see wireless networks but can't connect

Hi. I have the Pi plugged into ethernet now but I have no internet connection. I had at one point been able to connect to internet with ethernet so not sure what happened there. The Pi appears in the list of devices connected to the router and is not blocked. I tried your suggestion with SSID but st...

Re: Can see wireless networks but can't connect

OK so as it turns out I CAN connect to the insecure wifi network. But I've checked the password for mine a dozen times, tried it 20 times and it still won't connect.

Going to see if I can connect to insecure networks now. There is one that appears from time to time around here.

Re: Can see wireless networks but can't connect

Hmm. You mean in the top right corner of the GUI? Nope nothing like that. Just the networks status icon, volume, CPU usage, clock and eject button. EDIT: Did the reading and know now that the rainbow square is the under voltage warning in the terminal screen. Answer is still nope. Nothing like that ...

Re: Can see wireless networks but can't connect

Heh. Yes I both updated and upgraded.

So I take it nothing obvious is jumping out as a potential cause of this issue? Maybe I should start from scratch? Or still some leads to run down?

Re: Can see wireless networks but can't connect

Yes one of those is mine. As I said originally I can see the list of available networks, including mine, from the desktop. But when I plug in my key and hit OK nothing happens. And I've also tried setting this up in the conf file too and still nothing.

Re: Win 8.1 Mapped USB drive on Pi is showing partial memory

Thank-you Rob. I have no particular attachment to ntfs so I'll do as you suggest.

In your opinion might the poor performance of ntfs in this situation explain why I'm not seeing the whole partition?
