For my purposes I won't need audio. It's for a specific function, mostly data entry in a browser. But it needs to be clear enough to read from across the room on the TV. Thanks to everyone for the reply, I guess I'll have to stick with HDMI and maybe get an HDMI-DVI converter.

It's running on a 42" NTSC TV, so the text being readable from a distance matters.
