Re: Display messages form external sources

Thank you, this is a helpful response. What skills do you already have? Python? PHP? HTML/CSS? Professionally: COBOL (yes, really. Not used it for over 10 years though) Last 10 years, a proprietary language at my employers loosely based on SQL report writer. Outside of work: HTML (not touched for a ...

Re: Try something simpler first ?

I'm glad to hear you say this... Anyway, the term "Eternal September" is not appropriate here. We should not be so elitist. The phrase comes from a time of a predominantly academic usenet. Whereas this forum is a place for any purchaser of a Pi, no matter what their age, experience, qualifications, ...

Display messages form external sources

Hi all, I've had a pi gathering dust for some time now. I've had a little fiddle about but then life got in the way. I now have an urgent need to get something done and I know the Pi can do it. Trouble is I don't know where to start looking and the searches I've made have sent me down lots of windin...

problems using IDLE

I have the monksmakes.com kit. everything works fine. Build a simple project, execute the accompanying python script and all good. This works when using a terminal window. I want to try using IDLE and I get an error. Here's the script # 01_blink.py import RPi.GPIO as GPIO import time GPIO.setmode(GP...

Re: frustration with monkmakes kit and code

Finally got time to have another go. The thermometer projects report the right temperature. So it looks like I was the duff component. Most likely, I used the wrong resistances. I know I got the connections right because it did report a temperature somewhere around -40 which went to -35 when I held ...

Re: frustration with monkmakes kit and code

You are right about comments in the code. Especially in the sensor projects and projects that have a UI. This afternoon, I'll put aside some time to put some more explanation in. Here is a question for the community. Would people be more comfortable, if like so much of Python the resistive sensor c...

Re: frustration with monkmakes kit and code

Thanks all for the input. I'll get on to Mr Monk and see what I get back. That's 100% impossible, I don't know what funky hardware you've connected to a_pin = 18 & b_pin = 23. Impossible? Less than a week with the Pi and I've achieved the impossible. I'm doing better than I thought. I figure it's so...

Ah, righto.

where on earth do I start looking in order to find this stuff out rather than just asking someone who knows?

frustration with monkmakes kit and code

I have just taken delivery of my Pi2 and I'm having a tinker about. I purchased a kit of components from Amazon. It has 10 projects to build with accompanying python scripts and I have to say I'm disappointed. The frustration is that the kit tells me what to connect to what and then tells me to run ...

Re: Do I need A B or 2 ?

Thanks all for the responses.

In the toss up between the B and the 2 I decided to bite the bullet and spend the extra tenner.

A 2 is on the way to me.

Cheers

Do I need A B or 2 ?

Hi, For the moment, I want to spend as little as possible. I have a specific project in mind which is perhaps going to become expensive. There's no point in getting the latest quad core 1gb ram version if an A will do for better than half the price but then again, I don't want to outgrow the A in a ...
