Re: Strange hard drive behavior

Cool, that looks handy.

Is it common for the sda1 label to change over time? Like if for a while I stop using that hard drive and use a different one, then if I switch back to it will it no longer be sda1? What is the main advantage to using the UID over sda1?

Re: Strange hard drive behavior

OK, that is interesting. I wonder if back when I was using raspbmc it automatically created the mount for me. Then when I switched to raspbian I used to have it automatically boot into the desktop, which may have entailed automatically mounting filesystems (it auto-logged in). Anyways, adding the li...

Re: Strange hard drive behavior

So I edited my fstab by adding the line to look like this: proc /proc proc defaults 0 0 /dev/mmcblk0p5 /boot vfat defaults 0 2 /dev/mmcblk0p6 / ext4 defaults,noatime 0 1 # a swapfile is not a swap partition, so no using swapon|off from here on, use $ /dev/sda1 /media/WD500 ext4 noatime 0 2 saved, an...

Re: Strange hard drive behavior

OK I can add that to my fstab. I just found it odd because previously it would automatically detect and mount the drive, but now that I have done a wipe and fresh install of Raspbian from noobs it no longer is auto-mounting the drive. Edit - with regards to /media/external, that is just the name of ...

Strange hard drive behavior

My external hard drive is behaving oddly, I just completed a fresh install of Raspbian, setup Kodi, Pyload, and Bittorrent Sync. For some reason now when I turn it on, it says I do not have permissions to access the hard drive. pi@raspberrypi /media $ cd external/ -bash: cd: external/: Permission de...

Re: External HD no longer mounting after adding init.d scrip

I tried to get a temporary fix by undoing what I had done

Code: Select all

sudo update-rc.d -f btsyncboot remove
and by renaming the script in the init.d folder, but now on reboot I still get the same problem where I cannot access my external hard drive (though now at least btsync is no longer autostarting)

External HD no longer mounting after adding init.d script

I was messing around trying to learn how init.d scripts work. I took a process that was working well when I had it in cron scheduler as @ reboot and tried to make it an init.d script. Pulling from an example I found for initializing a vnc server on boot (http://elinux.org/RPi_VNC_Server#Run_at_boot)...

Re: Cronjob starting some but not all jobs...

Can any of you nice folks who have been helping me out in this thread explain what the proper syntax would be to have my .bashrc script check if pyload is already running before trying to relaunch it each time I open a terminal?

Thanks!

Re: Building Kodi on Pi 2

Cool! Thanks for the guide. Another option to get Kodi running in Raspbian is to add this guy's archive, he hosts a debian package of Kodi compiled on Raspbian: http://michael.gorven.za.net/ I've been surprisingly pleased with it, in some ways I think it almost runs more smoothly than Raspbmc did, w...

So in this instance, where would I find the home variable to redirect? Is that in the filebot.sh script, or elsewhere?

Re: How to install Java 8 on Raspbian?

OK, here's what I did to fix this, total linux noob but essentially I had to just change the default auto choice of java and javac for the raspberry pi (one of them was still set to the jdk6). I did so following this guide http://www.rpiblog.com/2014/03/installing-oracle-jdk-8-on-raspberry-pi.html W...

Re: How to install Java 8 on Raspbian?

Very cool, I see you are correct it was already installed, as when I tried to add it via apt-get it said it was already the most up to date version. However, something seems to be not right. When I try to execute the filebot.sh script from the most recent filebot portable (http://sourceforge.net/pro...

Re: Cronjob starting some but not all jobs...

OK, here's one thing I'm noticing. Now whenever I SSH into my pi using putty, after putting in the login info it sits there and waits for a prolonged period of time, then pops out with "Daemon PID XXXX" I believe it is trying to relaunch my .bashrc line which calls upon my command to start pyLoadCo...

How to install Java 8 on Raspbian?

How would I go about doing this? I don't see a good package when I do apt-cache search jre, they are all java 6 and 7. I am wanting to install filebot, but to do so I apparently need to install Java 8. Can anyone point me in the right direction? A search of the forum disregarded install and 8, and j...

Re: Cronjob starting some but not all jobs...

Well, your idea of adding my script for pyload to .bashrc worked like a charm, wizard! But seriously, where the heck can I read a good primer on all the various ways there are of automating user created scripts? I was really liking cronjob b/c I felt I had a good handle on it, until it stopped worki...

Re: Cronjob starting some but not all jobs...

That's a good idea, I will likely do it.

I guess I am a bit confused, why is .bashrc better for cronjob than this? How do either of them compare with init.d? Linix noob here, lol.

hmm I am not familiar with .bashrc, can you give me an example of what the correct input for my case would be, and I can try it? (program I'm trying to run is at /usr/share/pyload/pyLoadCore.py)

Thanks!

Cronjob starting some but not all jobs...

Hey, hoping to get some advice from someone who has dealt with this before. I am running Raspbian, installed via Noobs, have run the sudo apt-get update, sudo apt-get upgrade, sudo rpi-update, and sudo apt-get dist-upgrade, so it should be all up to date. Everything is running quite well, but I am r...

Re: RetroPie Setup - Auto-installer/updater for RetroArch ga

So, I ditched my raspbmc distro and switched over to Raspbian so I could get this to work. Setup script worked nicely, initially I could not get emulators to launch, but I realized that was because there are a few things you need (like runcommand) down at the bottom of the list when selecting which ...

Hi, thank you very much for all your work on this! I'm super stoked to get it running, finally beat Jet Force Gemini / other games I lost with my old systems! I just tried installing it and ran into some errors. I'm hoping someone who's been there before can look at the output and see if there's any...
