B+ Perfboard pattern (mounting holes)

The new B+ is really a thing of beauty, and I cannot express how wonderful the form factor is compared to e.g. the Arduino with its weirdly spaced, completely perfboard unfriendly extension headers, when it comes to cheaply make one-off prototypes. One wish though: Could somebody with the right CAD ...

Re: Will Gertduino replace the Gertboard?

Thanks Gert! And thanks for all the cool hardware you are designing. The Gertduino ist certainly something that is needed in the RPI ecosystem, as is the GB classic.

Will Gertduino replace the Gertboard?

Will the "Gertboard classic" continue to be available, or is it Gertduino instead of Gertboard from now on? The feature set seems different enough to support both, but what is official product policy?

Re: USB redux

I think a lot of the frustration around USB could be removed if there was more detailed and reliable documentation what works, and what not. It really makes a difference if you have to buy three webcams or USB hubs to get a working one, or if you can look up known good setups in a table (with exact ...

Prototyping cases (Pi+Protoboard or Arduino)

Are there cases already that combine the Pi with other boards, like the Arduino, or homebrew stuff on Protoboard/Breadboard? Of course the main problem ist that the Pi has sockets on all four sides. But at least the USB power plug could easily be moved to the outside of a case with a short piece of ...

Backport of new in-kernel Wiimote driver (xwiimote) library?

If I understand it right, currently the best way in Linux to use a Wiimote is the in kernel input driver (xwiimote). Rasbpian has the kernel part, but when I try to pair, it does not work. It seems the support for this new driver is just in Debian unstable, so it is not part of Raspbian currently. H...

Re: Gertboard Enclosures?

I quite agree, that four out of five times a case gets in the way when developing hardware. But very often, after the hardware works, you have to finetune and debug software, and try out a device in the real world. A completely hypothetical example: You want to create an alarm clock that wakes up no...

Gertboard Enclosures?

Of course the Gertboard is even more a prototyping device than the Raspberry Pi. But sometimes I feel that not casing electronics makes it really hard to test important aspects in practice. Therefore I wonder: Is there a case planned (either by Gert, the Foundation or third parties) for the Gertboar...

Re: USB/serial converters very broken on Pi

I am currently stress testing my Raspi with two serial converters feeding data at different rates simulaniously: One of the internal USB ports is connected to a FTDI cable connected to a GPS giving NMEA sentences at 4800 Baud, while the other is connected to an Arduino looping the "ASCII-Table" exam...

"Hard power off" (no shutdown) distribution/setup

I want to connect one of my pis to the AC outlet of my stereo, so it switches hard off when I flick the amp's power switch. Of course with modern journalling filesystems this won't kill the pi's filesystem right away, but it certainly is not good practice to simply pull the plug on a Linux system. A...

Re: Few Problems with my Pie

@Vindicator: He does not want to start nmap but install it, which should work fine. Actually running nmap should work fine too. I think it most likely is a power supply problem. Software-wise I've been upgrading lots and lots of Debian systems per ssh, never had a serious problem in 10+ years. So I ...

Thanks pluggy&gsh, that sounds good (both that it works for some people and that there is a formal bugreport being worked on). I will certainly investigate this further as described in the bugreport, when it happens next time. Strangely enough since the posting my pi Ethernet has not crashed. It mig...

Re: Ethernet dies after about 12 hours, nothing connected to

Thanks, jamesh! I've read through at least 10 or 20 of these threads, but found nothing to help me, as most solutions that were discribed as working were "I unplugged USB device X, and it worked", which does not help me as I've got nothing plugged in anyway. Other threads were quite inconclusive. I ...

Ethernet dies after about 12 hours, nothing connected to USB

I've just got 2 Raspis, and everything works fine for a while. I had no luck letting them run for longer times (like overnight) because Ethernet dies after a few hours (I had it running for close to 24 once, sometimes only 6 or so. 12 hours seems to be the average, so quite a bit longer than problem...

Is HDMI sound mono only, not stereo?

I just unpacked my Raspi and installed Raspbian. Everything seems to work, except for one thing:
Audio over HDMI does not sound very good. Also it is mono only. alsamixer only sees one output
channel.

Is this a configuration problem, or is Raspi hardware limited to mono in HDMI audio?

TIA

Thanks, Liz.

A thread or FAQ entry about the status/whereabouts of the first 10k batch would probably help, until it is really shipped out.

Ah .. I thought these 10.000 had arrived in the UK already. So these are on a container on the sea somewhere?

<t>I dont't want to sound too negative, but: Why are none of the 10.000 raspis shipped to buyers yet (or at least it seems so, otherwise we would have seen unboxing videos on youtube)?

Do RS and Farnell stash them away in some warehouse, 5000 each?

I think that is basically a s...
