Have you looked into writing an application that exposes a HTTP REST API for the Pi and Android device to access? If you're looking to have the Android trigger the Pi, you can have the Android device send the 'trigger' to the server instead, and the Pi will send a HTTP GET request to the server ever...

At this time, we can't use 64-bit on the Pi 3.

What of boils down to is that we don't have kernel sources for 64-bit, and we don't have a firmware that will take an ARMv8/ARM64 kernel. Right now, the Pi3 is basically, more or less, a slightly faster Pi 2.

@dhallet: As far as I can tell, there's a ARMv6 image available. You'll need an ARMv7 image, unless you're packaging it all on your own..
