@simpex:
The hardware Watchdog needs
a) to be enabled, and
b) constantly feed with 'don't reset me' signs.

I think no Raspberry Pi Distribution has the Watchdog enabled by default.

As far as I tested the (hardware) Watchdog does it's job. It even does recognize that something is wrong...
