How To Build A PSU For My RPI B+ Project

I am building a fish tank controller for 2 sumps and 2 display tanks and an RO unit. Because of all the different power requirements i have decided to try my hand at building my own PSU. This project will take me several months to do but if anyone has any info that would help i can use all the help ...

I think I am going to buld my own power supply at some point i think i will have to.

so can i add a resisters to the 3.3v and 5v output to increase the amperage

Re: help wiring up power relay bars

Hi 1) 5V to the Pi and the 23017 - needs to be approx 1A (a bit more for Pi2) - the Pi I2C pins can stand 5V if I remember correctly. I know that real life is different then specs but all i have read is that the I2C pins are gpio pins and thus can only take 3.3v. And I have been powering the 23017 ...

Re: help wiring up power relay bars

Hi IMHO it is unlikely that a big PSU would be unable to supply a small load. Not impossible, just unlikely. I have seen PSUs that provide too much voltage on too little load - poor regulation - and a few that switched off when the voltage went high due to too little load. Is the PSU switching off?...

Re: help wiring up power relay bars

It's not that it isn't big enough, it's that it is too big to be reliable, any 5v 2A mains adapter should be OK. (About $5). Please allow me to offer this analogy: Think of our power requirements as if they were a physical dimension (volume of a package). The relay bar needs about 800mA x 5v = 4W o...

Re: help wiring up power relay bars

think i got a solution to the low power i am going to try wiring up an old pc power supply i have its 135w with 5vdc 22a this i hope will work. If anyone knows something better please comment You can probably find a fairly cheap 5v 2A or 3A supply from somewhere, the pc power supply isn't ideal as ...

Re: help wiring up power relay bars

See the link you first posted. 5V 8-Channel Relay interface board, and each one needs 15-20mA Driver Current Each of the Songle srd-05vdc-sl-c relays (8 in total) needs 0.36W (72mA at 5v), you need 576mA just to energise the eight relays, that's before adding the 15-20mA for the driver circuit. tha...

20mA x 8 is 160mA thats less then 500mA or is there something i am missing

Re: help wiring up power relay bars

what is the rating of your 5v power supply? I suspect that the standard configuration of the relay set (active low) is causing all relays to activate as soon as you power up your setup. This may cause a volt drop on the supply which is resetting the 23017 (or the attached Pi). The best bet would be...

i have one of these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KTELP3I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and very time i would put a load on one of the relays the 23017 chip would reset and i have to power chip off to get it to work so i bought a sec thinking it was just a bad relay bar i got it ...

Re: Modern UI frameworks?

I can use C# though i will have to learn it but i have been programming long enough that it will not be that hard for me. But is there any other packages you use for the rpi. How do you build for mono. I have only ever used VS for the PC world not the embedded world.

Re: Modern UI frameworks?

Not any. Mono AFAIK doesn't support WPF so you better make a Windows.Forms app. That is the case now, Microsoft announced to bring .NET to Linux themselves, but I am not sure if they mean .NET core only or everything and it's unknown when it will happen. So for now, you're better of targeting Mono....

Re: Modern UI frameworks?

Why would you write a .NET application using another UI core library that is not .NET? Because the folks behind Monodevelop decided that. Why don't you ask them why they haven't adopted Windows.Forms? Fair point. It seems Sharp Develop is the route for a non-MS IDE with WinForms / mono. http://en.w...

Re: Modern UI frameworks?

Question: do you want to develop on Windows & deloy on Pi or do you want to develop & deploy on Pi? I was kind of hoping to devep on windows and deploy on rpi. The reason for this is the rpi b+ is resource deprived and i was not sure how time consuming it would be to do directly on the rpi. I could...

Re: Graphics Acronyms & What works with what?

Applications running on the Raspbian desktop can be programmed in many programming languages - some are less 'under-the-hood' concerned than others. Using C it is possible to implement graphical applications linking to the xlib the programming library/API for X.org. Usually one would of course want...
