Re: Adding on board serial using max232/233 ic

The best way is to use the max3232 with the vcc connected to 3v3 (not 5v). If you use the max232 then the rx pin needs a 5 to 3v3 level shifter. A simple voltage divider can be used if the baud rate is not to high. The tx pin usually can be used directly without level shifter. Thanks :) Because I h...

Re: Adding on board serial using max232/233 ic

Thanks for your reply, it was really helpful and I understand what's going on a slight bit better now :). Hopefully I'll have time this evening to wire it all up :) Eventually I want to try using the pi for various multi-programmer tasks, but as I have a lot to learn I thought this would be as good ...

Re: Adding on board serial using max232/233 ic

I think this is what I need in between the pi and my max232 cable/circuit that will plug into the devices I need to communicate with https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/using-the-logic-level-converter So I'm still not really sure what I'm doing though lol but I'll be breaking out my breadboard and ...

Adding on board serial using max232/233 ic

Hi there :) I'm going to be adding a serial port/interface to my rpi but I'm not sure about the 3.3v/5v issue that I could possibly get from using a max 233/232 ic. I don't fully understand electronics and data shifting, buffering, all that, so I'm trying to learn more at the same time as doing stuf...

Re: Lightweight python motion detection

EDIT I dont know why it did not work before but it is working now! I guess I must have had some open port or some other clashes in VLC, but after rebooting my pc and rebooting the pi again, and trying one more time it works fine! Thanks Killagreg for your assistance :) now I need to figure out a few...

Re: Lightweight python motion detection

Thankyou :) I tried as you suggested but it did not work :( i place the extra lines you posted in what I think are the correct places, import at the top with the other import lines, and the other code as below # setup a circular buffer stream = picamera.PiCameraCircularIO(camera, seconds = video_pre...

Re: Lightweight python motion detection

What Kind oft streaming do you want? A mjpg stream embedded in a HTML page vor a pure h264 stream? Thanks :) I would be happy with either right now. If I could choose, then an embedded webpage version would be awesome. I've tried to integrate the code from the picamera docs http://picamera.readthed...

Re: Lightweight python motion detection

Hi :) This is my first post here :) Thankyou guys for sharing your hard work! I'm a new Pi user and wanted to make a simple security system setup. I've used the last piece of code posted by killagreg and it works great! I'm new to programming and am having difficulty figuring out the next step if an...
