vc4-hdmi isn't a default option in that menu. Did you enable the experimental vc4 graphics driver? Indeed, I enabled it so I can play Need For Speed II Special Edition . :D But I think it was there before I enabled the experimental driver. I'm just not sure... Anyway, there should be some feedback ...

This is the sound applet menu, and clicking vc4-hdmi has absolutely no effect, other than closing the menu.

The composite audio/video output works great on an LCD TV, so the blame is my video capture device and/or its driver.

While the video could be better (though it's nearly pixel-perfect), the audio is much better than I expected - no issues at all.
