Decorator for write access to protected files

Hi all! I always had problems when i tried to automate installation routines for RPi applications when i tried to read and write protected fiels like wpa_supplicant.conf for automated network setup. So, there might be better ways , but i wrote a Python decorator which gives functions access to all p...

Stack size with ulimit on the RPi 3/Raspbian

Hi all, i'm currently trying to understand the ulimit -s command under Raspbian. Reason is i have a pygame parachute segfault when running SimpleCV and i thought increasing the stacksize might help. As i understand ulimit -s now, it outputs the stack size in kilobyte. If i enter ulimit -s on my RPi3...

Mind controlled Raspberry Pi with an EEG

Hi all, i have a new tutorial online. It shows how to setup a Neurosky Mindwave Electroenephalogram (EEG) to measure brain activity and to light an LED accordingly. The more attention, the brighter the LED glows. http://www.knight-of-pi.org/raspberry-pi-mindcontrol-neurosky-mindwave-as-simple-eeg-in...

Hi,

you can use Kivy for full screen apps:

But there are many other options like setting up a server and running the browser in full screen mode.

Hi RobScott, i don't really know about TKinter, but found Kivy great for building GUIs: http://www.knight-of-pi.org/kivy-on-a-raspberry-pi-control-light-color-with-a-touch-interface/ Originally, Kivy was built for Android-Touch-Interfaces, but it was ported for the RPi and supports mouse/keyboard in...

Re: Kivy and touchscreen at startup

Hi,

here is a solution if you still need it.

Create a script named start_app.sh with

Code: Select all

cd ~
sudo nano start_app.sh
Enter

Code: Select all

#! /bin/sh
cd /home/sysop/PATH_TO_APP
python main.py
Change permissions and move it into init.d:

Code: Select all

chmod +x start_app.sh
sudo mv start_app.sh /etc/init.d/
Have fun!

Re: How bad is shutting down the Raspberry Pi cold?

Extremely bad, especially if the application writes to the SD card. Mount your root partition read only, use a ram based temporary fs for logs, and move application data to a USB flash drive mounted with a sync flag to minimize issues. Hey mikronauts, thanks for your reply! The device does not writ...

How bad is shutting down the Raspberry Pi cold?

Hi all! I made a software for a commercial application. I didn't design the hardware, and in the current design, the power is just switched off without a software shutdown. So, the internet says that's pretty bad for the SD card and the file system. But how bad is it really? How many life cycles can...
