Since the 4GB board in made of Unobtainium here locally, if I get a 2GB Pi and do all the configuration and installation can I just transfer the SD card and USB-C disk to a 4GB board when I can get one?
Yes, absolutely. There's nothing RAM-specific in the setup.

Re: Simon Long appreciation

So, Simon, if you ever get tired of the drone, come here and bask in the appreciation of your usually quiet fans: Thank you so much for this! I do know that much of what I do ends up being controversial - it doesn't matter what you change, you're always going to upset someone - but the overall aim ...

Re: Raspbian 'Buster' 2019-06-20

On the Pi 3B+, can the FKMS driver and xcompmgr compositing window manager be enabled? If yes, will there be any benefit? Yes, they can. There will be no particular benefit unless you want to run OpenGL applications on the desktop - it will then use hardware acceleration to run them. Enabling FKMS ...

Re: Pixel Doubling

You can use the Screen Configuration tool to achieve a similar effect to pixel doubling - just set the resolution of your monitor to something lower.

We would like to get it back in as an option, but don't as yet know if it will be possible to do so.

Re: Issues changing keyboard in raspi-config

Unfortunately, this seems to be an error in upstream Debian - the keyboard selection database is corrupt. It will presumably be fixed at some point, but it's not something we've done to it! I'd suggest using the GUI Mouse and Keyboard Settings tool - which uses a separate database which is fine - bu...

Re: Raspbian 'Buster' 2019-06-20

Is there some configuration that can stop desktop items appearing on both monitors ? Not to my knowledge. It's probably theoretically possible to tell PCmanFM to only show the contents of the Desktop folder on one monitor, but it would be a code change, not a config change. I'll put it on the list ...

Unfortunately, the older pi's will not start with the new OS. When the OS starts it starts to loop ( I tried two pi's both 3B) I've spent almost as much time testing the image on a 3B as I have on a 4 - it definitely works on earlier Pis! As James suggested, it's probably a bad download or bad flas...

Re: Raspbian 'Buster' 2019-06-20 BUG

I expect I said so at the time, but this is very short sighted ! And even more so now that the PI4 is capable of running more things at once and is being positioned as a PC replacement, then the lack of multiple desktops looks an even poorer decision. In your opinion; one with which, based on 25-od...

Re: Problem with VNC on Pi Zero using Buster

You need to make sure you set a display resolution in the "Set Resolution" option in Raspberry Pi Configuration. VNC determines the size of the desktop it creates from an attached monitor. If no monitor is attached, it does not know how big to make the desktop unless you tell it - this button allows...

Pi3B+ (with SenseHAT attached). BUG WiFi connected and working. When I click on the WiFi icon, it causes it to 'disassociate' and show the lines with red crosses. Re: Does cloning an SD clone the Pi's MAC address?

Piclone should have some boxes on the menu for "Is this a backup for this Raspberry? [Y/N]" "Is this a copy for a different machine? [Y/N]" (obviously mutually exclusive). A strange usage of the word "should" there, given that it was me who wrote Piclone. So I think it's probably up to me to decide...

Re: ssh disabled on update of headless Pi 3b+, Feb 02, 2019

I am not aware of anything we have released in any package updates which would turn off SSH. I've just tested this - I flashed the November 2018 image to an SD card, enabled SSH and rebooted to check that it was indeed working, and then did a sudo apt-get update / sudo apt-get dist-upgrade. SSH was ...

Re: Difference between "Raspbian Stretch with desktop" and "Raspbian Stretch with desktop and recommended software"

To be honest, going forward, I would expect the vast majority of downloads to be the basic version without Recommended Software. We'll always offere the RS image as a download as well, but I'd expect the main use of it will be for preloaded SD cards and the like where bandwidth isn't a consideration...

In general, I would recommend people download the smaller version and add what they need. The version with ...
