Re: R-Pi Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MM

I'm thinking that I might make it so you can create images with red and green values representing a range in which the ground height has to be. This way you could make one of these and use it to generate areas where you would know what the ground height would be. You could then place creatures witho...

Re: R-Pi Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MM

Everything below is about the first and very messy copy of my program I've done some work with the height maps with perlin noise ( a algorithm used to generate realistic looking landscapes, clouds , and other textures). I actual got the code in the form of pseudocode from this guys website: http://...

Re: R-Pi Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MM

I looked it over on the wiki and it seems that you need a "heightmap (a monochrome bitmap where brightness corresponds to the terrain height at a certain location)" which python can definitely generate. So If we had a script that generated these maps based on parameters such as average height then w...

Re: R-Pi Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MM

I don't know anything about this kind of stuff so I was wondering if the terrain is generated on the fly or if there is a dedicated 3d terrain model that is already in the game. If it is generated on the fly where are the variables (average variance in terrain height and such) kept? It seems that it...

Re: R-Pi Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MM

The way I currently see it once we have several pages of code that can generate a world (the seed) all you would need to do is modulate it. so you have a world() function which has variables such as atmosphere density, time period, hardness...(all of which has default values) If you wanted to go mor...

Re: R-Pi Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MM

You asked for comments on a user interface for setting up worlds and I was thinking that although you should be able to load projects with large python files and such to make worlds it should also be very easy to make a simple world. Like "world(forest, fantasy)" which when loaded creates a simple s...

Re: R-Pi Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MM

I'm not a particularly good coder( read as " a really bad coder") but would love to alpha test the game :D . Also if "quests" can be boiled down to just code (with a library of animations) then this would let people make their own quests fairly easily (with a starter template perhaps). If this ever ...

Re: Introduce yourself!

<t>Hi,<br/> <br/> I have been wanting to start doing electronics projects besides programing and was considering using arduino until the recently the raspberry pi came to my attention. Arduino is expensive compared to it and has is a lot less powerful.<br/> <br/> I can't wait to get my hands on one(...

Re: Raspberry Pi Laptop

The screen looks nice but also looks like it would cost more then the raspberry pi itself which means that building this laptop would cost about as much as a cheap netbook. I can't think of away around this problem. (maybe you could take a super cheap tablet and replace the innards?)

Re: The projects list. Look here for some ideas.

<t>I'm thinking of giving my raspberry pi great internet and remote controlling it. If I have lousy internet I can just remote control the raspberry pi from where I am and use the raspberry pi's good internet. I have a few questions though.<br/> <br/> -Is this even viable( can a raspberry pi browse ...
