Re: Overpromised and Underdelivered?

We would not have had the developers making the gains they are making with a higher price point.
A higher price would certainly have eliminated me.

Re: Overpromised and Underdelivered?

I would not even bother thinking about high-definition video until you get your basic problems sorted out. The keyboard has to work - reliably. The mouse has to work - reliably. The SD card has to work - reliably. The internet connection has to work - reliably. The console has to work through the HD...

Re: Happy 100th Birthday Alan Turing

Happy Birthday to deceased is too macabre for me... I picture skeletons with a birthday cake.

I will just raise a toast to the truly great ones who have gone before!

Alan was certainly one of the greats, and his birthday is a good time to remember.

Re: Got my Pi struggling to keep it alive?

With RS and Farnell running different assembly lines in different factories, it would be really nice to know if certain types of failures relate more to one vendor or the other. Dom gave a really good breakdown of the acceptance tests the initial 10K units went through. Some of the failures being se...

Re: powered usb hub

Let me add I have two Plugable 10 port hubs, and I am very happy with them on PCs with Windows or Ubuntu. They do not work for me on Pi. I attribute this to a device driver problem (hub driver gets confused by too many ports?) but I have no time or interest in sorting this out. It was much easier - ...

Re: SD card holder broken

One thing I hope they consider for Pi 2 is dumping the SD card holder and moving to a slightly higher cost enclosed micro SD card holder. Better match for what folks actually have (how many cell phones use full size SD cards these days?), saves real estate, and should cost about the same. Only pract...

Re: powered usb hub

Be really careful on cheap USB hubs. I have a really attractive "Plugable 10 port hub" that is just unusable on Pi.

Lots of non-obvious errors, like losing mouse after startx.

Re: Arduino-Software-Installation

I gave up on Arduino 1.0.x, mostly because Debian no longer distributes Sun Java which Arduino requires. Oracle made license changes. "sudo apt-get install arduino" works fine to install Arduino 18, which is fine for most things. Most code written for Arduino 1.0.x seems to have made an effort to be...

Re: RootFS on USB Flash Drive

It has been mentioned on a different topic - if you replace only kernel.img, startx will probably fail for you (no mouse).
The new kernel requires library updates.
rpi-update seems to fix all. Fortunately - I sure can't figure out what firmware to get from github.
Thanks a bunch for rpi-update!

Re: SD Card performance in R-Pi onboard slot

Startx was pretty much killing my system (loss of internet, etc.) until I tracked the problem down to a 10 port powered hub.
Switched to a Belkin 4 port hub and all those problems went away.

Re: Quake 3 Arena at 60 FPS

I have a compile problem that I am surprised no one has reported. After many compiles, it turns up a missing header file: /opt/vc/include/interface/vcos/vcos_types.h:28:33: Error: vcos_platform_types.h: No such file or directory I have tried git cloning to a different directory; same error occurs so...

Checked again today - Newark moved my date again - from 8 June to 18 June. Moving dates in is always acceptable - moving dates out a week at a time is a death by 1000 knives...

RootFS on USB Flash Drive

I really hate starting a topic on something I am sure has been covered, but I have searched the Forum and the WIKI.
Can someone post a link to a walkthrough on how to set up a boot sd card, and a rootfs on a USB Flash Drive.
Newark is finally about to ship my unit and I need to get ready...
Thanks!

Re: Have rs kept some stock back for returns

You might want to put a warning in the FAQ to be very careful with the SD card socket. As the mechanical part with the most likelihood of failure, users could use some tips on use. Bad thing about the production ramp is it does not allow any time to change the build based on feedback from early adop...
