You need a program called SD formatter
https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_3/
which will put it back to new condition

Thanks RaTTuS, again, got there in the end. It wouldn't take fat 32 only vfat the problem now is that i can't write to the drive either from the network or from the Pi itself. I have tried to change the permissions in properties but just get strings of error messages. I can find nothing on the forum...

I have managed to get samba working and can exchange files between the PC and the Pi using the share folder Should I be able to find and access the PC from the Pi and if so where do I find it. Also as cups seems to give problems in raspian should I not be able to use the printer through the network ...

I too am having a problem with CUPS and raspian
It worked fine in squeeze
I am gettting no error reports and the jobs entries say everything has printed, but the printer does nothing
The printer is OK with my PC

After a lot of fiddling about I now have Raspian working as I want in everything apart from CUPS. In squeeze it worked fine with my HP psc4500 but in Rasbian it's dead. The print window appears OK and the print button is unghosted but nothing happens when I press it. i have done the usermod -a -G lp...

I got that working OK but could not really get on with it
I was quute happy with the music player in squeeze, I don't know why they scrapped it in raspian . I'm not too clever without a GUI

mp3 blaster looks usable but I 'm not even sure if it will work in Pi

Thanks RaTTuS I got it back in windows following your instructions. I was trying to use the drive to boot and run the Raspi I installed squeeze on it using win 32 diskimager as you would with a card I then tried to follow the instructions as given by andreword at the thread at http://www.raspberrypi...

Having failed to get my Pi to boot from my usb hard drive
i find the capacity of the drive is reduced from 256gb to 75 meg
is there some equivalent to SD Formatter to get it back to normal so I
can start again from scratch

not much luck there
GParted couldn't see my HDD
I kept refreshing and it appeared for about 5 secs and then vanished
may be cheapo power hub but it was OK when I tried the other method
