How to get started in FOSS?

Hey guys/gals, So this semester of college is just about over and I'm applying for internships/jobs like most college students would do during summer. Until I actually get a job/internship, I have lots of free time. I want to use that free time to try to help out with some sort of opensource softwar...

What to get:Raspberry Pi 2 or ODroid C-1

Hey everyone, So reading some online news and heard about the ODroid C-1. Saw the specs and price compared to the Raspberry Pi 2 and thought I should get the C-1 over the pi 2. I did some research and got some concerns over what to get. My main goal is to buy either 2 Pi's or 2 C-1's. One would be f...

Re: Windows 10

I'll probably upgrade too. I got Windows 7 free through Dreamspark since I am a Computer Science student . The only thing that might stop me from upgrading is that if the rumors about 'Windows as a Service' are true. I do not want to have to subscribe to an OS. If that ends up only in the cloud for ...

Re: PHP files get downloaded (PHP5 downloaded)

Like ktb said, see if Apache is running. I know for the longest time I could not figure out why my php file was downloading instead of going to a different page and the reason was because Apache was not running.

Re: Dimming Adafruit PiTFT 2.8"

Probably should have googled it first... Looking online on the forums and such people are saying no it can not be dimmed. Could there be any adverse affects from using pwm on the board if I find the right pin? If not, any ideas how I can make it appear dimmer such as something to put in front?

Dimming Adafruit PiTFT 2.8"

Hey everyone, So I got the Adafruit PiTFT 2.8" touch display for christmas. I am making a smart alarm clock with it and it is working fine except that it is kind of bright. I know I can turn the back light off using gpio 252 on the display's board. I have looked at the instructions Adafruit mad...

Re: halo-esque body suit/armor

I've been a Halo fan for a long time so I'll try to help you the best I can ideas-wise. This is definitely a big undertaking. The hardest part would be the HUD and eye tracking. Instead of a projector, you could use a small TFT display like the ones from Adafruit http://www.adafruit.com/categories/9...

Re: Internet and WiFi SSH from Android

I am pretty sure you could do it both ways. With RPi and Android, you would use your Android phone as a hotspot and connect the Pi to the hotspot. From there, you should be able to SSH into the Pi with an SSH app on your phone. If you want to use your computer, it gets a little more tricky. You woul...

Re: Easy LAN data xfer between Pi's

What I used for a very very simple home automation program (more like proof of concept) was Python's socket library. The socket library, paired with pickle, would send data saying whether to turn a light on or off. Pickle is needed because it was not letting me send a list using socket. The only thi...

Re: collaborator on simple project

I'll be happy to look into it too. I've done some programming projects with the Pi so far (in Python) and would be happy to see if I could help in anyway.
