Re: dhcp settings

In dnsmasq there is the "dhcp-ignore" option that can be used in conjuction with "dhcp-host" declarations to limit which hosts the server will reply to. See the man page about these options and the standard "known" and "ignore" host tags. I suppose you could also want to lock up hostapd with a whit...

dhcp settings

I am using my Pi3B+ as an access point. It is in an enclosed shell so I setup it up to broadcast an SSID with a static IP so I can SSH into it. I used dnsmasq and hostapd for setup. Basically followed the tutorial at https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/wireless/access-point.md . ...

Raspberry Pi 3B+ network priorities

I have a WiFi (wlan0) connection and also a cellular (ppp0) connection running at the same time. I am curious which connection takes priority and also how can I change the priorities if needed? When I view "route" on the wlan0 and ppp0 setup it only shows wlan0. On my strictly cellular ppp0 setup "r...

Re: apt-get update fast at startup but fails/times out few minutes later

Are you sure it's a 3B+ and not just a 3B? Because I'm pretty sure that Jessie won't work on a 3B+ without some funky firmware shenanigans. What does the following command return? cat /sys/firmware/devicetree/base/model;echo And Stretch was released between Buster and Jessie. Did you try Raspbian S...

Re: apt-get update fast at startup but fails/times out few minutes later

Hi all, My Raspberry Pi3b+ running Jessie is connected to the network via WiFi. Wait, what? Jessie on a 3B+ model? That's not even a supported model with Jessie! My suggestion is you should have upgraded your OS to Stretch when you had the chance (when you deployed 3B+ models), and now you are 2 re...

Re: apt-get update fast at startup but fails/times out few minutes later

The problem is that your RPi only has a limited amount of RAM and the number of updates you're trying to install will overwhelm that. Your RPi then goes into swapping (which is diabolical and extremely slow on an SDCard). To apply every update, you're going to need to do it one update package at a ...

Re: apt-get update fast at startup but fails/times out few minutes later

If you're already building Buster then what possible benefits would you get by trying to beat your old Jessie system into submission. Just give up. I need the data from the devices currently running while I am building. I can't have a gap for my research. Do you have suggestions? My BENEFIT would b...

Re: apt-get update fast at startup but fails/times out few minutes later

Is this an ipv6 issue? Any ideas on a resolution to this? How about building a new SDCard with Raspbian Buster and seeing if the problem is resolved on something that isn't over four years old and end-of-life. I had a feeling that comment would come up haha. I am in the process of shifting my SW to...

apt-get update fast at startup but fails/times out few minutes later

Hi all, My Raspberry Pi3b+ running Jessie is connected to the network via WiFi. At boot my /etc/resolv.conf: # Generated by resolvconf search attlocal.net nameserver xxxx:xxx:xxxx:xxxx::x ifconfig shows wlan0 has an inet addr but it also shows 4 inet6 addr. If I reboot the system apt-get update runs...

Re: Writing Multiple Images

Does this work for ".img" files? Have you tried this out to create multiple images at one time? I never used it, the question sparked my interest and I googled it. https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/284480/dd-write-to-multiple-disks Then I checked Debian has it as a package. Now I would love ...

The internet suggests using dcfldd for that. Looks to be available in Buster.

Writing Multiple Images

Is it possible to create multiple Pi Images at one time? If I have 3 USB ports can I create 3 images at a time? The image clone is on the computer the will do the writing. My Pi boots from the USB.

Re: New User Missing Software Dependencies

There are different ways of installing software. As long you are using "apt" or "apt-get" installations are system wide and not linked to a user. ( but different users may have different configurations stored for the same application ) The moment you start installing software from source or with "p...

Re: New User Missing Software Dependencies

UPDATE:

I flashed my USB to an older backup that only has "pi" login and updated all my scripts. So now I am back at ground 1. I would like to create a new user that has all the same software and configurations at "pi". Then I want to remove the "pi" user. Please advise. Thanks in advance.

New User Missing Software Dependencies

I setup all my software under the "pi" default account. I recently decided to create a new user "bob". I don't think all my software install transferred correctly because I deleted the "pi" user but now OpenCV is crashing (insufficient memory error) and referencing a directory /home/pi/xxxxx that do...

Does this work for any buster release? I have the release with the Desktop option.

Re: AWB Off does not work and fixed whitebalance gains cannot be set

The PiCamera fix that was reference as available 4 Sept 2019 does indeed allow the gain to be adjusted manually on the Pi 4, but, setting gain controls back to auto after setting gains manually now does not work(gains stay fixed). Also setting the camera mode up to use ISO above 200 now produces st...

How do you know which WiFi chip it is using? Is there a way to determine priority? From your testing it seems the dongle gives your more range than default Pi WiFi chip. Do you have specs on the Pi WiFi chip vs yours?

I know the Pi 3B+ already has WiFi built-in. Can I improve WiFi range/signal strength by using a dongle instead? What are the specs of the WiFi already on the Pi? How easy is it to setup a dongle as priority for WiFi connectivity?
