Re: How to delete forum account ?

I would guess if the aggrieved is using a pseudonym that is associated with them, and they wish to disassociate it with something they view as undesirable. It’s also good practice to try not to leave a personal trail around the internet. So all that would be required is for the person to remove, or ...

Re: How to delete forum account ?

Problem pretty well demonstrated in some of the responses, but in my experience not unusual on techie forums and especially *nix ones where I would guess that some are not aware of the effect of their manner. Some of the rudeness (or perhaps better described as haughtiness) is not particularly bad, ...

I know of one person that did this because he was sick of all the snark.

He contacted admin and they did it for him.

Re: New PoE Hat

I don't think that comparing the cost of the PoE hat to the cost of the official PSU is a valid one. If you don't have a PSU already then PSU is essential to getting the Pi working and the purpose of the Pi is to get it into more hands. PoE will never have that position, it's a different target buye...

I normally use Zeros with CLI lite versions of OS.

But with a new 3B+ I've been playing around with the desktop and found it to be more than comfortable for general use.

WebOS on Raspberry Pi

I just wondered if anyone had tried WebOS on Raspberry Pi 3, and how smooth the build process is before I commit the time to spinning up a new box with exactly the right linux (Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64-bit) ?

Re: No anti-static bag for 3B+?

Mine just arrived this morning from CPC, in a cardboard box, no bag but the box itself clearly marked on the outside as anti-static packaging. It's an anti-static box instead of bag. The CPC/Element 14 box is NOT marked as anti-static packaging. The logo to the right of the dustbin means that the c...

Re: Aluminium Heatsink vs Copper Heatsink vs Copper Heatsink with Fan

A heatsink in an enclosed case doesn't improve things very much because of the limited convection available. I like the FLIRC case, but I was considering the way that a 3B+ now moves heat away from the SOC and the improved network chip, using its ground plane. In this case the screw-holes ought to b...

Re: Aluminium Heatsink vs Copper Heatsink vs Copper Heatsink with Fan

I generally don't have coolng problems with Pis because I run them uncased and I usually don't thrash them. I have one installed with PoE on a masthead in a weatherproof enclosure that I remove the power from on very hot days. But with the new thermal design I think there is an opportunity for an en...

Re: No anti-static bag for 3B+?

Every UK Pi I've bought (a few dozen) previously from a variety of suppliers have been in the plastic blue tint anti--static bags. However, if new Pis are being supplied in the more environmentally friendly brown paper biobag anti-static envelopes then this is much better for everybody. http://www.n...

Re: No anti-static bag for 3B+?

Yes, I was. And I'm a little concerned that the Pi 3B+ seems to run a lot hotter than any of my other Pi's so wondered if it could have been damaged by electrostatic discharge. Even the USB and ethernet sockets are fairly warm where the ones on my other Pis are not at all. However, it seems to be r...

This has come up for discussion before and seems to be a problem affecting linux in general. I've been doing some other work lately with non-Raspbian, non-Raspberry linux and hit exactly the same problems.

I still have a first batch from China Pi with the stick-on CE.

Memories of being up early with three computers trying to get onto RS and Farnell first managed to get an order in, went back to bed. That was a little treasure when it arrived.

Recording calls where one party is the recorder and for private use is not illegal in the UK, not even if it is done without the knowledge of the other party. But for business purposes, or to use the recordings for any purpose where a 3rd party will be involved then the call must have been recorded ...

Re: When will Raspberry Foundation admit that the Pi destroys your SD cards?

I know that one-off anecdotes are not particularly useful, but in my case I have dozens of Pis and used for many different applications including my weather satellite receiver which is write-heavy and at the top of a mast where it's a major job to get to it. I've never had an SD card fail in a Pi, b...

Legal there but not necessarily here. Anyone getting drugs or guns shipped in can quickly discover that being legal over there doesn't make them okay here. "It's a private two-party transaction and nobody else's business" doesn't usually stand up in court. Seriously? It's a small electronic computi...

Perhaps the Foundation could clarify the legality of the situation, exporting, importing, and using boards which are not manufactured for the UK/EU market, as they see it. It's a personal import of a legally possessed item so it's nobody's business apart from the 2 parties involved in the exchange....

Re: OS Question/Poll

"on your Raspberry Pi" in the singular doesn't really work for me because I don't know how many Pis I have, several dozen.

So you need another option to choose "all of the above" or similar. Lately I've been using some Raspbian LITE and also RISC.
