Re: SWABPiIG - Winchester 2nd Wednesday

Are we intending to meet at the Roebuck this coming Wednesday (14)?

Hope to see a few more than last month.

Re: SWABPiIG - Winchester 2nd Wednesday

Those who like to keep up-to-date with rpi-update might wish to know that the firmware update published on 30 April caused the sound on Ubuntu MATE 16.04 to be muted. I reverted back to the version published on 27 April and the sound worked again. I filed a bug report ( https://github.com/Hexxeh/rpi...

Ubuntu MATE

I could not find a forum specific to the above so I thought that I would start one. If one does exist, perhaps the posts could be amalgamated. Having run Ubuntu MATE 15.10 on Raspberry Pi 2s and, recently, on a newly acquired Raspberry Pi 3, I decided to download Ubuntu MATE 16.04 Beta 2 and give it...

Ubuntu MATE

The sub-heading: Making a microSDHC under the Ubuntu MATE section of Downloads suggests using dd or ddrescue to write the image to the memory chip. An afterthought suggests using the Gnome Disks app and the Restore Disk Image option. This graphical option has much to recommend it especially as it us...

Downloads

May I suggest making downloadable copies of Raspbian Jessie (and Raspbian Jessie Lite) images available as .img.xz files. These are natively compatible with the Gnome Disks app using the Restore Disk Image menu item to create a bootable microSD. One of the advantages of using the graphical app is th...

Re: SWABPiIG - Winchester 2nd Wednesday

I have a RPi3 with Ubuntu 15.10.3 installed. I shall bring that along tomorrow. I do not have a portable display, other than the touch screen that is attached to a RPi2. (I don't fancy changing the display ribbon cable more often than the minimum.) It would be nice to get hold of a portable HD displ...

One Linux nerd to the girl he fancies:
"Will you be my valentine?"
She: "No way!"
He: "Sudo will you be my valentine?"
She: "Yes, of course."

Re: SWABPiIG - Winchester 2nd Wednesday

I did see the blog entry (via Facebook) but, if you look on Raspberry Pi's downloads page https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/noobs/ , it now offers NOOBS as version 1.7.0, release date: 2016-02-09. I tried it on a spare microSD card and it seems to install as expected. Of course, for those of us ...

Re: SWABPiIG - Winchester 2nd Wednesday

Incidentally, the new Pimoroni stand for the Touch Screen expects the orientation to be as originally designed (with the power connector at the top). The workaround to restore the orientation is to insert the line: lcd_rotate=2 in the file: /boot/config.txt This allows Ubuntu MATE to appear the corr...

Re: SWABPiIG - Winchester 2nd Wednesday

Further to observations made at our last meeting, particularly concerning the new 7" touch screen: I noticed that the display screen seemed to be upside down compared to when I first tried it out. Apparently, this was a deliberate intention by the Raspberry Pi officialdom who considered that it was ...

Re: SWABPiIG - Winchester 2nd Wednesday

I have noticed that the Raspberry Pi foundation has released a new version of NOOBS (v1.4.2) on 24 Sep 2015. Amongst other things, it provides a GUI for setting up the original configuration such as enabling/disabling overscan and setting the time zone. Despite what is implied elsewhere, this does n...

Re: Wht is THE largest class 10 SD card you got working?

Just to add my recent experience. I obtained a Samsung EVO 64GB Micro SD SDXC Class 10 UHS-I memory card to use with my Raspberry Pi model B+. Although the Instructions-ReadMe.txt file in the NOOBS folder states that the card should be formatted with the downloaded Formatting Tool from the SD Associ...
