Re: OPENELEC vs RASPBMC

My only complaint about openELEC is that it doesn't support add-ons as readily as RASPBMC does. what for addons are not supported in OpenELEC which are supported in Raspbmc? All Standard XBMC addons are supported, and OpenELEC comes with 2 standard own repos with additional OpenELEC specific addons.

Re: OpenElec - no IMG file

You can download one of the 'testing' images and update using the settings addon. No need to do anything manually. You can't normally update automatically from a development build to a release build, but maybe the Settings addon allows this - not something I've tested. Milhouse, you are right, but ...

Re: Can OpenELEC be used as a hotspot

yes all OpenELEC 3.1.x versions includes Hotspot (tethering) support by default. you need a supported wlan device and can enable this via our new nice settings addon. No apt-get or something is needed to use this...

Re: XBMC OpenELEC and LCD HD44780 via GPIO

Is there any way to put this working with openELEC without need to recompile it? Can I just install some package(s) on the distro I already have running? the way is to fill a feature request on https://github.com/OpenELEC/OpenELEC.tv/issues with much as possible info how to do this, samples and or ...

Re: Linux From Scratch on the Raspberry Pi

You just need a decent build system ;) I can build 'Poky' (see https://yoctoproject.org ) in about 56 minutes on a system with 4GHz quad core (with hyper threading), 16GB RAM and SSD. This gives a complete distro (kernel, etc.) and I found it much, much easier to use. It provides a complete cross-t...

Re: Test Whether Raspberry Pi Has 512MB RAM

That makes it more complicated. The XBMC distros already handle this. They read board_rev and copy start.elf files as appropritate, so they could edit the config.txt. We could have two options: gpu_mem=64 gpu_mem_percent=25 You can pick one or the other. And if you pick both it sums them. E.g. that...

Re: Is Shairport legal?

I would be interested purely from a generic standpoint. What I would believe from other things that are/aren't is that it isn't illegal, in the same way NTFS on Linux/UNIX is not illegal, ie. they have just reverse engineered the protocol and produce another implementation of the same thing. -David...

Re: Open ELEC- add-ons issue

always try the latest builds from http://sources.openelec.tv/tmp/image/openelec-rpi/ not sure which build you mean but XBMC for RPi is still in the development phase and it is possible some functions are broken. This issue should be fixed afaik with the latest build. Using Raspbian instead OpenELEC ...

I'm trying 11925 I've done a fresh install and on first run I've set everything up and it works well. However when I restart the device it boots up to the blue screen just before xbmc full loads (blue screen is the background) and it just stays there. I have left the pi for an hour but it never loa...

Hi, now RPi is supported from XBMC officially i have created a thread in XBMC's official RPi forum to continue this thread there. On XBMC's forum many more XBMC devs will read about the issues with our devel builds, so i think the place is better there and XBMC issues will be solved faster. I like t...

Re: RPi in Car: "live" image (read-only)?

I'm planning on using my RPi in my car and having it suddenly lose power when the car turns off. I understand this would inevitably cause corruption on a typical SD card installation where data may be writing to the card when it loses power. I'm wondering if there is some way to set up an SD image ...

where you get this big build? if you build byself be sure you *dont* have set a env variable "DEBUG=yes"
