NMEA GPS Info (USB/Serial) via Python 2.x

I have a few days off work and was bored so I decided to look into receiving data from my Pharos GPS-500. It only took a little while and now I seem to have the basics down. I've seen a few posts around that ask how to interface with a GPS, and there are several possible solutions. This one seemed t...

Re: Multiple processes using the same GPIO

If by sharing, you mean checking the status of the GPIO, then absolutely. If your PIR is hooked up to a GPIO, and is active, it will put out 3.3 V (high) to its GPIO pin. Your running programs can all access this by using the RPI.GPIO library from Python for example. You're just checking the status ...

Re: Regarding gps module

I am curious about this also but have not done any testing. The last time I interfaced with a GPS antenna module (Windows, Visual Basic), it was registered as a Serial port and was constantly transmitting. All I had to do was read from the port and parse the data. I see that gpsd is supposed to read...

Re: Check the person cleaning at home: is RP the best tool?

Yeah if all you want to do is verify the cleaner is on-site, then a hall effect sensor wired to the door frame and a magnet in the door would give you a good door open/close recorder. Images take at intervals could show some sort of effort. The Pi can do all of this without issue, using Python I kno...

Re: Problem with RPi Serial and PHP

Have you tried using sudo when running the scripts? I had a similar issue, and found that www-data was not part of sudoers. After adding www-data to sudoers I had no problems running python scripts from php. The code below works for me. Before adding www-data to sudoers it would not fail but did not...

Re: Pin 16 momentary high on boot?

Thanks Joan. I did mean GPIO 16, which is pin 36 on the 40 pin connector. I just did a firmware upgrade and moved my LED back to GPIO 16... Now upon reboot, I get a quick flash of the LED, then off for about 6 seconds, then it's on High again and stays that way. :? If I setup GPIO 16 and then cleanu...

Re: Accessibility?

I'm still a beginner with the Pi, but I assume it would do everything you want. It's essentially a fully functioning linux machine if you're using Raspbian. I have installed Apache, PHP, MySQL, Samba, Python, even WebMin - and have a fully functioning server that I can communicate with over my LAN. ...

Pin 16 momentary high on boot?

Hi Everyone, I'm working on a homemade sprinkler controller using a Pi B+. I have LEDs hooked up as I work on and test it. I noticed that on reboot, pin 16 flashes the LED 2 times before it's fully booted. Is this intended? Is it something I can change? I was using 4 GPIO pins - 12, 16, 20, 21 when ...
