Re: Or it might be something Else

I found I was better at Cut & Paste than a typist. Even wearing my trifocals, I can't see whether I hit a comma or a period. Anyway, it is a done deal. I have the v1.4.1 download sitting on this User and another copy on Pete13 User Account. Sure appreciate the time and work you did (not to mention t...

Re: Or it might be something Else

I don't understand the apparent fixation on using Powershell. :) If the downloaded zip could be unzipped OK without the unzipper complaining then I doubt there was anything amiss with the download. The problem is/was the the unzipped file had a different checksum and the B+ is unable to boot due to...

Doesn't work with any of your suggestions so far. I will go though it this weekend and try each and every option you have suggested. I have a choice of (I think) 4 different options of Powershell. I have tried Powershell and Powershell (x86) and have gotten the same results. So far all options you h...

Https was the first hurdle.
Second hurdle is:
Start-BitsTransfer -source "https://director.downloads.raspberrypi. ... v1_4_1.zip"

Now I get: Start-BitsTransfer : The host name in the certificate is invalid or does not match
I got nothing for this one!

I was/am as green as you but I was lucky. When I purchased my B+ I ordered a Edimax EW 7811 UN at the same time from Amazon.com. [$8.70]. After getting the Pi booted and working as a stand-alone. I shut down and installed the Edimax and fired the Pi up again. It just worked on my local wireless netw...

Re: How to connect to a network printer

I went down this road last December. I used CUPS for my HP8500 all-in-one. My notes entail a lot of things you probably don't need to do but if you are able to get the Main CUPS screen using your browser, choose the CUPS for Administators and then Adding Printers and Classes. When I finished that, i...

Re: BASH script prior to login

Why not use cron to get your RPi to send an email once a day. You'll know when it's not alive that way. Or tweet a status every hour and you'll see it in your Twitter timeline. https://twitter.com/big_ben_clock is running on a Linux system using ttytter http://www.floodgap.com/software/ttytter/ and...

BASH script prior to login

I have a 120v circuit in an area that in not accessible in the winter months. This location tends to "go to sleep" without throwing the breaker switch for that circuit. I am considering installing a networked pi unit that I could ping showing if the circuit was awake or asleep depending on the resul...

If you get that you're driving the wrong data stream to the printer. For HP it should use hpijs in most cases. **** I found that was my problem: hpijs I modified my printer file using CUPS 1.5.3 to use the other "driver" that was available in a similar but older printer model and now I can print up...

Re: Output to printer [Solved]

the never ending story.... After solving the fiasco of the printer not being recognized (thanks to all for the suggestions), I sent a small text document to the printer. Re: Output to printer

I used Cups 1.5.3 a few days ago and installed the same printer as shown below: I didn't have any luck using https://pi.local:631 so I used https://192.168.0.15:631 which is RPi's address. Cups 1.5.3 came up and I opted to use the Discover Network Printers and the HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909g was sho...

Can you please try again without comma's in the ip address and without using filenames containing spaces? You can use that but they need to be quoted or escaped i.e Testfile\ 1.txt. Re: Output to printer

Start by making a simple text document in the text editor of your choice (e.g. vi, nano, leafpad, etc.). I suggest that you have a form feed (ctrl-L) character as the last line of your file. Then try the command: lp -d <nameofprinter> <nameoffile> See if you get any output. Used leafpad created 2 l...

Re: WPA/WPA2 Wifi keeps disconnecting! WEP works though...

I know this is an older post, but for anyone else looking - what worked for me was to change my router authentication settings. It was setup as WPA2-PSK. I had to change the Encryption Algorithm from TKIP and AES (TKIP+AES) to just AES. On the rpi settings, the encryption is CCMP. This worked with ...

Output to printer

Probably because I am newbie (or NOOB), I haven't been able to find any info for outputting anything to a printer. I would imagine a program such as LibreOffice has someway to do it otherwise that program would be entirely useless. The only reference to print that I have found outputs to the screen....
