Re: Overpromised and Underdelivered?

Please don't give up. I too expected highdef H264 out of the box, saw it wasn't available and just followed the instructions for omxplayer. I was convinced that a newbie like me couldn't compile his own ffmpeg components but the instructions got me through it. I can't describe the sense of triumph w...

Re: Is this legal? "www.Raspberry-Pi-Store.co.uk"

in relation to the domain name being owned or traded it may be more complicated and less clear-cut than it first seems In England at least it's pretty clear cut where the domain name was registered after the trade mark was registered and is being openly offered for sale. Nominet's website has a cle...

Re: Is this legal? "www.Raspberry-Pi-Store.co.uk"

[quote]I may be wrong but I don't think that can be classed as a trademark violation[/quote The mere addition of hyphens would not be enough to escape an allegation of infringement of a validly registered word mark. The relevant laws in Europe derive from Council Directive 89/104. If you're interest...

Re: XFCE on the Pi - Making your Pi GUI run faster!

All sorted now. I eventually removed LXDE in its entirety with a clumsy mixture of apt-get "purge" and "autoremove" commands. I'm sure it's simple when you know what you're doing. Starting XFCE is a simple case of typing "startxfce4" at the prompt after login. I chose a panel plugin called CPUGraph ...

Re: XFCE on the Pi - Making your Pi GUI run faster!

>>>apt-get install xfce4-systemload-plugin Great, thanks very much for that. I think I'm beginning to see which features belong to the GUI and which are independent. I've looked into LXDE removal on the Ubuntu forums and I thinks it's a complex exercise to get rid of every bit of it. Perhaps I'll l...

Re: XFCE on the Pi - Making your Pi GUI run faster!

Thanks very much for posting this, I much prefer XFCE. Can you assist with the answers to a couple of questions? 1. I may be the odd one out, but I prefer to choose whether or not to log in to a GUI at start-up so I am planning to remove SLiM and type "startx" when I want the GUI just like before. O...

Re: Any word from Farnell?

My Farnell order shipped today. Order date and time was 01/03/2012 16:26, order reference was 16507992. I received the email confirming that delivery would be w/c 21 May on 27 April. No idea what happened to my RS order, they've gone quiet on me. I'm pretty sure I registered my interest with RS by a...

Re: R-Pi as a component in a commercially sold product?

<t>If you buy boards that are lawfully on the market in the UK (actually anywhere in the EEA) then their inclusion in a product, and resale of that product, will be lawful. You would have to be careful about how you used third party trade marks on the product and you would have to abide by the terms...

Or, before replying, just ask yourself "What would Eben do?"

Yesterday's webinar was a masterclass in wearing one's learning lightly.

<t>Farnell = early May<br/> <br/> RS = email from them on 1 March promising more news within 7 days. No such news yet. I think I successfully registered my interest with RS at about 06:01 on Wednesday so I'm hopeful that I might be a first-batch qualifier. No other members of the forum seem to be re...
