Re: Can't get scanimage to work as non-root

Fixed: I ran lsusb to find all devices attached, and chmod'ed the scanner to 0777
I know chmod 0777 is generally a bad idea, but it works.

Can't get scanimage to work as non-root

I've got a Canon MP190 scanner/printer connected to my Model B RasPi. The printer works fine, and I have it networked. I'm trying to set up scanning on the Pi, and I installed saned. To test it, I ran the command scanimage , which is a command-line tool to capture an image. If I run it as root, it s...

Re: Trouble installing MySQL

I just ran this command: sudo apt-get --simulate install mysql-server and it indicates it will install just about everything you need. I went a head and removed the --simulate option and it did in fact install a seemingly perfectly working mysql server 5.5 and mysql client on my RPi. If you put the...

Trouble installing MySQL

I'm setting up a LAMP server on a Pi for PHP development, and I'm trying to get MySQL installed. PHP works fine, but today I downloaded phpMyAdmin and it complained about the MySQLi extension being missing. I purged all packages relating to MySQL that I could find in Aptitude, then reinstalled "mysq...

Re: powering RPi via computer's usb port?

This is definitely possible, but your USB port might not be able to supply enough power for many peripherals. Also, if your PC switches off (think Windows Update), it'll take your RasPi with it. Putting "usb wall charger" into Amazon.co.uk, I see some that cost only £3-4, and it's definitely worth t...

Re: Can't get Vista to talk to a Samba printer

Thanks for the help, I've created a Samba user and it works now. I did try CUPS, but I couldn't get it to work.

Can't get Vista to talk to a Samba printer (solved)

I've set up CUPS on my Pi (Default Debian "Squeeze" image) to share a Canon MP190 (using a driver for MP180, but it works fine) and this works flawlessly on my Ubuntu 10.04 desktop. I need to connect it to a Vista PC as well, so I've installed Samba and set it up to share the Pi as RASPI. I can see ...

Re: Server distros?

It seems extremely unlikely to me. It sounds like something you need to do yourself as a project, or with others, and then share the information here.

OK. I don"t really have the skill to port Linux distros, so I"ll probably just use a desktop version.

Re: Server distros?

Will there be any SD card images for Linux Server distros? I say this because I want to run one headless as a LAMP server, and don"t need a GUI.
Thanks,
