Raspberry Pi Desktop on a 64-bit VirtualBox VM

Hello, i've been struggling a bit with running Raspberry Pi Desktop (RPD) via VirtualBox because i've been unable to copy and paste between my host (Win7 64-bit) and guest (RPD). Today with having finally updated my VirtualBox Guest Additions to match my version of VirtualBox i was hoping to see the...

Re: missing battery monitor panel

installing RPDx86 on VirtualBox allowed me to track down some missing packages, basically everything that starts with lxplug- executing the following: sudo apt install lxplug-bluetooth lxplug-ejecter lxplug-network lxplug-ptbatt lxplug-volume and then rebooting i was able to load all the raspberry p...

Re: broken python_games after Jessie to Stretch upgrade

apparently a regression on one of those package upgrades. if we can track it down we can theoretically submit a bug on whatever the faulty package is. not sure how much help i'll be since I have content i'll need to backup before completing reinstalls, and have limited time to experiment since i hav...

Re: broken python_games after Jessie to Stretch upgrade

well, i at least i figured out for myself that the files that launch menu items are the *.desktop files in /usr/share/applications and /usr/share/raspi-ui-overrides/applications . the /usr/share/applications/rc_gui.desktop launches rc_gui Exec=env SUDO_ASKPASS=/usr/bin/pwdrcg.sh sudo -A rc_gui /usr/...

Re: broken python_games after Jessie to Stretch upgrade

just tried sudo raspi-config and that worked, but is a terminal application, so not a big surprise. i concur with your experience that RPD Jessie was smooth and painless, but i'm now in a territory of being unsure about where Raspbian Desktop ends and Debian begins. for next place to look, now that ...

Re: broken python_games after Jessie to Stretch upgrade

i was wondering about raspberry pi configuration utility as well. you're talking about " Raspberry" > Accessories > Raspberry Pi Configuration i couldn't recall if that had been functional on x86 under Jessie or not... like i said i haven't gotten down into the lxde menu config deep enough to figure...

Re: missing battery monitor panel

I was able to come up with the following panel configuration https://i.imgur.com/ERRnjPO.png this gets me a panel that looks like this https://i.imgur.com/MROxzgP.png it gets the job done, but doesn't look anywhere near as pretty as what Simon's post showed https://www.raspberrypi.org/app/uploads/20...

broken python_games after Jessie to Stretch upgrade

I had RPD installed on an old macbook, and was VERY pleased to see Simon provide steps to accommodate the upgrade from Jessie to Stretch in the December announcement. i will admit that i had some issue during the upgrade process, but running apt-get dist-upgrade --fix-missing seemed to get the upgra...

Re: Apt-get dist-upgrade problem

i can confirm that i can duplicate your issue! as the error seems to imply there's a conflict between the python 2 and python3 version of this scrollphathd both wanting to install the same content /usr/bin/scrollphathd_api at an identical path. i was planning on either removing the python2 package (...

Re: Sharing files between two RPi's on WiFi Lan

since the instructions @DougieLawson linked didn't explicitly include the instruction i ended up finding the following solution to get nfs shares working https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/a/10404/825 . rpcbind (although installed by default), and nfs-common both needed to be enabled and started ...

Re: Fixing booting of the x86 image on Macs

so it took me some trying and some research but i managed to get persistence working on my 2010 MacBook. what it took was making sure that my ext4 partition had a label of "persistence" set on it. i was even able to do this within my x86 PIXEL live boot. my persistence partition was on /dev/sdb2 so ...

Re: Updating to the 2012-09-18-wheezy-raspbian image

I have assumed that if I'm running as a user other than 'pi' that i'd want to execute

Code: Select all

 adduser <myuser> netdev
is that correct?

Thanks!
