Never mind. I discovered that even through my IP address on the Raspberry was 192.168.1.170, that address was already taken by a FreeBSD box on the network. I was trying to log on to the wrong machine.

Thanks for the hint. I thought you'd found my problem since I had copied Raspbian from a plane 8gb microSD card to a Sandisk Extreme Pro card. My Pi has gone flakey

I've been playing with it for a couple of weeks but today it started rebooting if I touch or move it in any way. I swapped the cables and power supply but still had the problem. I had a second spare Raspberry Pi B+ so I put that in the case and the problem is gone. I think I've got a lose connection...
