AFAIK the "standard" door peephole is like a wide angle adaptor; it does not focus light like a camera lens focuses light on the sensor, but rather makes an existing lens (like your eye) have a wider field of view. So you could not simply mount the door peephole on a 12mm lens holder. However, you ...

I also forgot to mention that it gets fairly hot inside the garage on hot days (upwards of 85-90 degrees Farenheit). I've heard stories of RPIs crashing in this type of environment. I just picked up the B+ btw and would intend to use it for this purpose.
