A few options I have had success with:

SSH Tunnel
Squid3 (Bit awkward to set up but works)
Shadowsocks (Easiest one for clients)

By using the pi at work do you mean you took it with you to work? If so likelihood is the DHCP server is providing it a leased address and because your pi is not static it changes. I was gonna recommend Telegram but not entirely sure if it is made for a ARM architecture yet? Still works for Windows, Mac, most Linux distros, iOS, Windows Phone, Android and Chrome built in but when thinking about it you can use the web app from Telegrams site
