Connecting a PIR to PiFace Digital 2

I'm trying to get a PIR https://projects.raspberrypi.org/en/projects/physical-computing/13 working with a PiFace Digital2 http://www.piface.org.uk/static/img/piface_digital_2/pifacedigital2_diagram.png.... It seems simple enough - there are three pins/wires Vcc, Gnd, and Out. Where do I connect Out?...

Re: pifacedigitalio stopped working on PI 2 after last upgrade.

Managed to get it working finally after much trial and error, although I would like to see some simplified instructions for getting it installed from scratch on a new installation. Write up the instructions and publish on a blog somewhere. Re-write the instructions and do a pull request (PR) agains...

Re: spi.py

After some rummaging around it appears that setting SPI on consists of uncommenting

#dtparam=spi=on

in

/boot/config.txt

Can anyone confirm?

Presumably a reboot is required to make it effective...

Re: spi.py

To enable SPI I have to run raspi-config then select 5 - Interface Options -> P4 SPI.

What does this actually do? ie which files are actually affected?

Re: No PiFace Digital board detected

It seems the problem was due to SPI.PY not being updated to the latest version.

Have things working properly now.

spi.py

I have two files called spi.py:-

/usr/local/lib/python3.5/dist-packages/pifacecommon/spi.py
/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/pifacecommon/spi.py

How do I tell which is being used when I enable the SPI kernel module using raspi-config? and how would I go about enabling the other one?

I've just hit this 'No PiFace Digital board detected ' problem, and am not exactly sure how to fix it. Is there any way to test a PiFace Digital2 physically? ie not using software.... Looking at the web page http://www.piface.org.uk/products/piface_digital_2/ , a three things stand out: c) GUTHUB hosts an emulator https://github.com/piface/pifacedigital-emulator - it maybe worth trying that to see if the software has installed correctly... sudo apt-get install python3-pifacedigi...

Re: No IP address on wlan0

ifconfig shows wlan0 but no IP address is assigned even though there is an entry in dhcp.conf... interface wlan0 static ip_address=192.168.4.1/24 nohook wpa_supplicant so when starting dhcpcd this should automatically get assigned, so something is missing... No SSID appears either. I have RPi B runn...

Re: No IP address on wlan0

The first part... My /etc/dhcpcd.conf does contain

interface wlan0
static ip_address=192.168.4.1/24
nohook wpa_supplicant

and the system has been rebooted several times... Wondering if it could be a hardware problem...

wlan0 does show up when I run ifconfig.

No IP address on wlan0

I followed the instructions for setting up the RPi as an access point here https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/wireless/access-point.md and my understanding is that on reboot an IP address should be assigned to wlan0. This is not the case. Could anyone suggest why? The wi-fi dong...

I can create an ftp script easily enough, but I want to execute it once a connection is made with a remote host, presumably via ppp. The modem wouldn't normally be connected to the Internet.

Sending a file to an Internet host via USB modem

I would like to periodically send a file from a Raspberry Pi to an Internet host via a USB modem.

Does anyone have an example of how to do this?

I would like to initiate this task via a cron job.

Maybe it would be possible to send a text instead, but I don't know how to dao that.
