Regarding my last post (different Pi V4) about

Re: No wifi connection with Raspbian-Buster on PiV4

I'm not having a lot of luck with Buster on PiV4B and WiFi!!! I just tried to connect to a "good" WPA secure router with my Pi V4B Buster configuration. Running raspi-config for WiFi I get the following error message: Could not communicate with wpa_supplicant and then to exit raspi-config I also get...

No wifi connection with Raspbian-Buster on PiV4

Can I assume that a Pi V4 with BUSTER (Sept 2019) will not connect to a router running WEP "security"? I just checked with an older install of Buster (fully undated) on a PiV3 and WEP does work for that unit. Does that make a difference or are there extra steps for WEP on a PiV4? The wpa_supplicant....

Re: New "gpio" config.txt command announcement

Thanks. Yes, I would prefer to use only one numbering system. Where did you find the documentation for the use of BCM numbering in the rc.local? I did some searching without success. Can I assume that this use of the config.txt to set the gpio pins is only available in Buster? Thanks again...RDK

Re: New "gpio" config.txt command announcement

OK, it works for me. Before I had this code in the rc.local to initialize the pins being used in my application: # BCM pin 12 is the same as wPi pin 26 or physical pin 32 # BCM pin 16 is the same as wPi pin 27 or physical pin 36 # BCM pin 20 is the same as wPi pin 28 or physical pin 38 # BCM pin 21 ...

Re: New "gpio" config.txt command announcement

I've been reading about the GPIO facilities and uses. I had begun to think I was understanding it until I arrived at this GPIO config.txt discussion! Can someone please detail which pin numbering system is to be used in the config.txt file? WiringPi, BCM or BOARD? In the rc.local the answer is Wirin...

Re: Can't install Samba on PiB running Buster

Dougie….Thanks for this explanation. First time I have heard about this. Will use apt from now on.

My excuse for using the old version: I have small pipes and downloads can take a long time, so I used what was handy without realizing the ramifications for the old version. mea culpa....RDK

OK, after the update --allow-releaseinfo-change and upgrade sequence, Samba installed normally. Yes, I just checked and I used a July 2019 Buster install Image. Can't install Samba on PiB running Buster

I just rebuilt an older Pi B with a fresh install of Buster. I have run the usual sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade . That all seemed to go normally. Now I want to install SAMBA, like I have on other Pi's for network file access from my Windows machines. When I run sudo apt-get samba , it...

I GIVE UP!!!!! Of course, this is correct. For the other Pi's, setting root to nothin...

Re: Problem with send mail, it insists to send a copy to root

Pcmanbob….Good new and bad news. G-mail did not complain about a bad e-mail address ("[email protected]") and I only got one copy to my Hotmail account. HOWEVER, cron did complain in a separate message to my Hotmail account and I do not understand. I have tried to google this without any meaningful (to ...

Re: Problem with send mail, it insists to send a copy to root

Pcmanbob….With the exception of the root= line your conf file is the same as mine. I really don't want the root to point to my g-mail address, so I will, for now, point it to the same address I'm using for the e-mail. I did not fully understand your final comment: the only time I get an extra email ...

Problem with send mail, it insists to send a copy to root

I have 6 Pi's which every night at midnight send me a status e-mail. 5 of the 6 are working correctly, the 6-th is going to make me bald. Details. The same "sendtome.sh" script is being used on all the Pi's. This script sends the e-mail using a special g-mail account I have set up, as defined in the...

Wow, my question seems to have generated quite a "tempest in a teapot". I actually have Buster running on a different Pi, but it is having difficulty running some of my programs and finding drivers for a few of my HAT devices. Thus, I'm reluctant to move to Buster for this application. Can MariaDB b...

Seeing SAMBA shared in Windows 10 Network display

Historically, most likely before version Windows 10 1903, when I clicked the Network link in the "This PC" item in the File Explorer, it would show all of my Samba Pi shares as well as all of the other computers on my network. Now I only see the computers on my network. I can map to these Pi shares ...
