And also for those that don't know, if you create a /home/$USER/bin directory, then you don't have to put personal scripts/commands in /usr/bin or other common locations. And you will no longer have to type the complete path or have to use ./script.xx in the current directory. Just write your script...

For my purposes it works just fine for hosting some pictures and other static stuff. Mine uses two HTML and two php files, and fancyindexing. Nothing special.

This is what I use, its my adoption of an old idea - its been around since the dawn of the Pi, run a root bash shell (sudo bash) and point it at this saved in a file somewhere and made executable. If you're a windows fiend you might want to keep samba in so just comment or remove that bit. #!/bin/b...

Can you provide a link to this tutorial you used to install Apache. Maybe what they are telling you to do is causing you to have issues. The login error is probably a permissions error. You're not trying to login as www-data are you? That's the only user that is normally assigned /var/www as a home ...

If using NOOBs Lite, does it act similar to a regular Debian netinstall? All of my Debian systems have been installed via netinstall. ETA: I'm looking for just a barebones OS to get a LAMP server up and running. Then move my home webserver off an old PII-366 Dell laptop over to the RPi. Nope, NOOBS...

^^^ VI is all I have ever used for editing in a term. Not sure how to use nano. I'm sure it's easier, but VI has always served me well for editing scripts and config files on remote servers.
