Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface
Just updated to V5 of PiKrellCam (using the Upgrade button in the web interface), and now the camera view will not show up. It's stuck on "Waiting for first image". VNC/SSH-ing into the Pi works fine. BTW this is on a RPI 3a+, but that really shouldn't matter. I have 3 other cameras runni...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface
I've now had several systems fail due to SD card corruption, in some cases perhaps just flash wearout. In my usage, I suspect the SD card is the weakest link in the RPi by orders of magnitude (unless it gets wet, in which case connectors can corrode). I think the safest approach is to use a read-on...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface
No idea about your specific situation but I can tell you, after about a year of heavy use, one of my PiKrellCam units started having "blackouts" somewhere in the middle of a clip, either a freeze-frame or just a gap typically about 5 seconds long. This was infrequent, maybe 2% of all clip...

Re: PiKrellCam: getting preview, but no recording (all black
Thought I'd post this here. I've noticed over the last few weeks that I occasionally get video recordings that show the preview, but the entire video is blacked out. I don't believe it's an issue with PiKrellCam, could it be a possibility my SD card is going up, or a setting in PiKrellCam I'm missin...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface
I've got a NoIR v2.1 running with PiKrellCam. You do want the current version of the S/W so it supports the higher resolutions of the v2 camera, otherwise it just works. Well, with the additional note that for some reason, the v2 camera will not go to either max ISO or max shutter speed in dark con...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface
Hey all,
I just purchased a Pi NoIR v2. Are are any issues I should be aware of when using it with PiKrellCam?
Thanks!

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface
I was interested to read your comments re security when accessing PiKrellCam via the internet and have to say that I have been doing this on and off for some time using port forwarding on the router. Are you saying there's a danger in doing this and if so could you please provide more information.....

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface
can't seem to be able to get to my PiKrellCam interfaces from outside my local network. Do you mean from a larger subnet, or that you want to get in from anywhere on the internet? Normally your router's NAT (address translation) does not make your Pi visible to the world, so first you need to figur...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface
Hey all, I'm sure this has been asked before, but I can't seem to be able to get to my PiKrellCam interfaces from outside my local network. Could someone give this noob some help? I've tried port forwarding on my router, etc. but can't make it work. Any info you need, please let me know. Both of my ...

Re: curlftpfs, and new 8MP camera
@jbeale, I just saw specs on this new camera, a bump to 8 megapixels. Nice. Please report the results! https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/new-8-megapixel-camera-board-sale-25/ I am only using curlftpfs for background, offline archiving of stills to a remote FTP site. It is convenient for my scripting ...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface
@jbeale: That is really cool. You have really taken off with all the extra stuff you do with PiKrellCam. I do some tinkering, with my ham radio experience and all, so a little electronics don't intimidate much. But I've always wanted to do it, from when I was younger. Knowing then what I know now, I...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface
@jbeale,
That IR light looks pretty good, so I ordered one (for now). Can you tell me how it's set up, and it's proximity to the Cam? I want to keep the camera's location secret. Mine are in windows indoors, and I would want to install the lighting outside.

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface
Thanks for testing it! My Pi3 came today and this test was the first thing I did. Sure enough, 30 fps works OK. Very nice! I am also reminded just how good PiKrellCam motion detection is. Stock out of the box without adjusting it reliably detects distant birds like this, while generally ignoring sm...

Re: PiKrellCam on RPi 3 ?
My Rpi 3 is still on backorder, so I'm throwing the question out there: can anyone confirm if the RPi 3 allows PiKrellCam to run at 30 fps, instead of being limited to 24 fps? There are some applications where it would be nice if the frame rate synchronized with another camera I have, which runs at...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface
Is it possible to trigger via a PIR? PiKrellCam works fine for me most of the time but I am on a busy road, so set detection zone to just trigger on my driveway, but when it is wet I see the reflection of the traffic on the wet paving bricks and that triggers the motion detection. I feel that a PIR...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface
I think most likely your motion settings are set such that the car is not detected until he speeds up. So at the start, a car moving very slowly in the driveway does not reach the motion threshold. You can also try increasing the pre-event trigger time, so PiKrellCam uses a larger pre-roll buffer a...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface
when you say "directly connected" does that mean you have wired ethernet cable connecting them? That ought to be reliable, but if the RPi boxes rely on wifi for connection, the wifi signal is certainly possible to jam. @jbeale: Yes, that is correct. Did a little drilling, and hooked them ...

Re: PiKrellCam: motion vector detect + OSD web interface
@billw: I have an odd request, and I'm not even sure it can be done at this level. I have PiKrellCam deployed on 2 RPi2's, both directly connected to my router and network. I do that to keep out (or reduce) the possibility of my signals being jammed or interfered with. Sounds paranoid, but it has ha...

Re: PiKrellCam: feature request
Been thinking about this for a bit, and that's a request to have a "select all" button for the thumbs area. The reason I ask is this. Because I live on a busy street, I get a lot of hits each day (cars, etc). That's to be expected on my end. However, after manually scanning the videos, ar...

PiKrellCam: feature request
First off, thanks for all your help in recent weeks. I was having issues on large files, and cutting down the event_gap helps a lot. Still get big files on windy days, but that's to be expected. I'll be looking at the recent upgrade you made today. Been thinking about this for a bit, and that's a re...

Re: PiKrellCam with large files
Usually what's being detected are cars going by, nothing unusual. Yeah, I need to trim some roses out front...but that would only affect one of the two RPi's deployed. The other one has no obstructions, so I get far fewer huge files on that one. On occasion it might happen, but nothing I can point ...

Re: PiKrellCam with large files
If you have trouble rebooting after the freeze it could be other things also. I would measure the voltage on the Pi board, maybe there's power wire resistance dropping some voltage. Are you overclocking? If so, drop the frequency back down a bit. When you have reboot failures how far does it get an...
