Re: Alternatives to the GIMP

I've found a list of what seems to be all the packages available for Raspbian on http://www.raspberryconnect.com/raspbian-packages-list , but a lot of it is add ons for programs also listed on there. There's no really detailed descriptions or screenshots for any of the software, just a few words cov...

Re: Alternatives to the GIMP

Thanks for the suggestions about pinta and the various programs with paint in their title. I'll try to install all of them. I suppose I'd have to type... sudo apt-get install pinta or sudo apt-get install xpaint etc. Of course, I don't know how to search for software which is available for the Pi. H...

Alternatives to the GIMP

I'm reading the book "Ultimate Guide to Raspberry Pi" by Kevin Partner of PC Pro, because I realised that I had no real plan about doing any programming on my Pi and I've been sidetracked into mainly using XBMC. This book told me to install Geany and the GIMP, so I did. I loaded the Python games cod...

Re: One SD card not booting

The card soon started booting again and I think it may have been something to do with having to wait 5 minutes before trying to boot from it again. Unfortunately, most or even all of the XBMC video add ons no longer work, the RaspBMC installation never worked and I've hardly done any programming und...

Starting with Brandy BASIC

So far, I've only typed in and RUN the following simple program, which probably isn't a very good example. I'm only familiar with BBC BASIC as on the BBC Micro, not BBC BASIC V. 10 CLS 20 PRINT "Paul was here! "; 30 GOTO 20 After I typed RUN, I found that it was impossible for me to escape or break ...

One SD card not booting

I've been using my Raspberry Pi model B for a few weeks now with a total of three different SD cards so far. All of a sudden, one of these SD cards, which is 8Gb can no longer be booted from, although the other two (both 4Gb) still work. I think something on this card has been corrupted, although I ...

Re: Starting with my Pi

I'd like everyone to know that I've reinstalled OpenElec and have been having lots of fun with it watching videos from TV channels across Europe. Unfortunately, I haven't yet managed to transfer any downloaded video files onto it from my laptop. I could have done this via USB memory stick, but both ...

Re: Using OpenElec

I only started using the Raspberry Pi last week, so I think I'm entitled to ask a few questions without first thinking up lots of search criteria before asking them. I take it from the XBMC website that all add ons are written in Python, so in that case I would first of all have to learn some Python...

Re: Using OpenElec

So, from that link it seems there's no chance of me writing an add on at any time in the near future to view any videos from a particular website which isn't yet covered. All I could do is email the developers of the other add ons begging them to make some add ons which do this. What I need is an ad...

Using OpenElec

I've really enjoyed using OpenElec, which is based round XBMC over the last few days, although this has distracted me from doing any programming at all. OpenElec has a simple system of selecting add ons to watch online videos. I'm not sure how many of these add ons there are. OpenElec goes through a...

Re: Starting with my Pi

The latest news is that I installed Raspian, OpenElec, and Arch. I was amazed by OpenElec, which turned my old TV into something like a Smart TV, or even better. Smart TVs usually have their services limited by geographic location, but I found I could watch some Danish TV programmes, thanks to vario...

Re: Starting with my Pi

I managed to fix the overscan problem in Raspbian by editing a text file using my laptop. Just uncommenting the two lines squashed the picture horizontally into the middle of the screen, though. I had to change the values from 16 to 8. I had to give up on making the RISC OS screen readable though. A...

Re: Starting with my Pi

Kryptonicbomb , I don't know why I should use an IDE. Surely IDE software is one of the things that went wrong with computers, which the Raspberry Pi is meant to sort out. AFAIK Python is more or less a C interpreter, so I should be able to type in programs in one window, then see them run in anothe...

Starting with my Pi

I've just bought a Raspberry Pi after thinking about it for some time. I was delayed by lack of availability, then by lack of money due to other expenses. I spent a total of about £60 on everything. I've spent about 15 hours using it, but I'm having various problems. I should point out that I've bee...
