Re: need 2nd simultaneous display on raspi 2b and up for gui

Hi ghans, Thanks for that. That information is apparently very rare and I've been unable to find any current data on displaylink with the raspi in my research. So, I'm assuming that if I have the latest Raspbian, I can use displaylink without a kernel recompile. So say I buy a USB 2 displaylink vide...

Re: need 2nd simultaneous display on raspi 2b and up for gui

Hi all, I've been doing further research into getting USB Displaylink monitors to work with the raspi. Unfortunately, I haven't found any quick easy plug and play (or even close) solution. The links below provide some info, some of which is over my head. The first link seems to indicate that Display...

Re: need 2nd simultaneous display on raspi 2b and up for gui

Hi ghans, Thanks for the replies. I'm sure Lazarus / Free Pascal will work on the raspi. However, mikronauts makes some good points about there being more help and support for Python. The problem, regardless of language, is when I want to use multiple simultaneous displays. Bear in mind I haven't tr...

Hi kusti8, Thanks for all that info and encouragement. I've been reviewing your message and writing notes about the references you mentioned. I think there were 11. I can't comment on individual ones much since I don't know anything about them. But I will be looking them up. I appreciate it. :D Ron

Re: need 2nd simultaneous display on raspi 2b and up for gui

mikronauts, OK, you're starting to convince me to take a harder look at Python. Don't think I want to tackle C or HTML just yet. Guess I'll have to go to the book store and browse some books. However, of course, your answers create more questions. :D * With Python, I presume that I give up compile t...

Re: need 2nd simultaneous display on raspi 2b and up for gui

mikronauts, ghans, scotty101 - Thanks for the replies. mikronauts - I'm sorry to hear that this task is so hard, but not extremely surprised based on my research. I would think this should be easy, and would be right up the alley of a raspi or similar sbc. I'll keep that 2 pi's thing in mind. While ...

Re: need 2nd simultaneous display on raspi 2b and up for gui

Hi ElEscalador. Thanks for the reply. I've installed Ubuntu or Mint a few times and I've installed Raspbian a few times. I've tinkered around in Linux some. But my knowledge of the under the covers workings of it is minimal. Here's what I believe based on my reading. I'm aware of vnc solutions which...

Hi all, I'm an intermittent lurker here and have posted some messages a few years ago but am a newbie for the most part. Re: HDMI to VGA on the B+

These should be good. The first one does not have sound. The second does. Look through the Amazon reviews for people who mention raspberry or pi. It's a good idea to have a powered adapter. These get power through a usb cable. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00879DM56/ http://www.amazon.com/gp/pro...

Re: Atlanta, GA area

I'm in Forsyth Co about 40 mi north of Atlanta. I'm interested, but, for obvious reasons, north side stuff is best for me. I went to that geekspace gwinnett meeting. It was good, but it's an hour drive for me. Every hour I drive my car away from the house and back costs me $ 26. So, it adds up. But,...

Re: Using old TV

Wyke, PS Depending on how old your tv is, it may have knobs or buttons which control vertical size and horizontal size. Sometimes such knobs are on the back, and may need a screwdriver to access them. Turning those down or reducing them might allow you to see more of the text that's off the edges of...

Re: Using old TV

Hi Wyke, Your pi may be locking up during boot. It would be nice to determine what's happening without worrying about what you cannot see on the screen. Do you have any access to an hdmi monitor? Someone else will have to clarify on config.txt. This is not relevant if your pi isn't booting. It's app...

Re: Using old TV

PS, ignore the part about NOOBS if you're not using NOOBS. The point is, you want to boot into raspbian, test it, then turn on overscan, then test it.

Re: Using old TV

Wyke, If you can use the procedure hansotten stated to turn on overscan, that should help. What may be happening is that your old tv is painting the picture wider than the actual frame of the screen, so it goes off the edge. Turning on overscan shrinks the image so it will fit on the screen. If you ...

Re: Building motor control app, golang vs lazarus / pascal

A bias is good but be careful with that generalization. I have some simple socket communication code written in both Go (compiled) and JavaScript (Interpreted). The JavaScript outperforms the Go by a huge margin. You can see all the stuttering and stammering of Go's garbage collector killing perfor...

Re: Building motor control app, golang vs lazarus / pascal

Hi all, I'm certainly not trying to start a language war, but I've come to some conclusions as to the direction I'm going in. I'll do the initial prototype in Pi only, and see what kind of timing I can get out of it. If necessary, I'll add a Propeller chip. In terms of language, I already had a stro...

Re: EXACTLY how I got composite video working on B+ Raspbian

the video selector logic of NOOBS will be overhauled in the near future, because it sometimes seems hard, (or even impossible) to consistently get composite video working. for example the boot selection menu of NOOBS (evoked when having installed multiple OS's) doesn't want to switch to composite, ...
