Re: Pi3 B+ No Longer Boots

Yep, grabbed a spare card, formatted it, and loaded a fresh copy of Raspian Buster. Booted perfectly, so it sounds like the original card turned into scrambled eggs somehow. The only thing I can guess at why it failed is that I had been working on it via VNC. That's when I told it to add serial supp...

Re: Pi3 B+ No Longer Boots

One other thing I forgot to mention in my original post - I measured pin one of the GPIO and it is 3.28 volts, so that's not the problem.

Pi3 B+ No Longer Boots

I've got a Pi 3B+ that has been working just fine for several weeks. This afternoon I went to the Configuration menu and turned on Serial support. It asked if I wanted to reboot now or not. I replied "Y" and off it went. Into the black hole. Will no longer boot no matter how many times I pull the po...

Migration from Pi 3 B+ to Pi 4

I'm anxiously awaiting delivery of a new 6GB Pi 4. Is my current Pi 3 B+ micro disk compatible with the new model? Is it a simple matter of moving the card into the new Pi? If I am able to do a simple move of the card, will the existing, very current Pi OS on that card take advantage of the Pi 4 fea...

Kerry_s - Many thanks for the tip. Adding quotes around the path and the executable names worked; the application now appears in the menu.

Thank you!!

Adding A Menu Item - need help

I've done some Googling and read many threads regarding how to add a menu item to the Pi, but have been frustrated in getting it done. I added a .desktop item as such: Screen Shot 2020-09-02 at 11.57.44 AM.png I've extracted my application's zip file into /home/pi/Xojo/Remote Debugger Desktop. I can...

Re: RealVNC - Cannot Connect to Rpi From Mac OS (RESOLVED)

I have resolved the issue. When I first started working on this VNC thing, I had a warning that port 5900 was being used by another device / service. So I changed it to port 6000. I also used port 6000 on my Mac to VNC into the Pi, as such: 10.0.1.85::6000 and I kept getting those failures. After di...

Re: RealVNC - Cannot Connect to Rpi From Mac OS

Thanks for the input - didn't know that they could move a post between different forums!

I know there are alternative VNC clients, perhaps I should quit chasing my tail with RealVNC and investigate southing else? I've spent at least six hours on this issue with zero improvement in results.

RealVNC - Cannot Connect to Rpi From Mac OS

I posted this in the Beginner's Forum, but with no responses, I realized that it might be better in this forum, so here we go again: I've got a fresh copy of Raspian on an Rpi 3. I've enabled VNC support. I installed the latest RealVNC viewer on my mac laptop running Catalina 10.15.6. When I first s...

RealVNC - Cannot Connect to Rpi From Mac OS

I've got a fresh copy of Raspian on an Rpi 3. I've enabled VNC support. I installed the latest RealVNC viewer on my mac laptop running Catalina 10.15.6. When I first started up the RealVNC app on the rpi, it told me there was a conflict on the port (5900), so I changed it to 6000. I set up RealVNC t...

Re: Force RPi to use a specific interface for Internet connection?

Many thanks for the VERY helpful replies! Changed the addresses of the Wlan and Eth0 interfaces on both RPis per SurferTIm and bada bing, bada boom - both computers can see the Internet, all devices on our local network, AND the Ethernet connection between them is working. This is great, as it elimi...

Re: Force RPi to use a specific interface for Internet connection?

SurferTim - Thanks for the reply! Sorry to be a dunce here, but how would I go about something like that? I know that 10-net and 192-net addresses are for internal, non-Internet addresses, so I "assume" you mean I should use a 192-something on the RPi #2, correct? Can I simply assign a static addres...

Force RPi to use a specific interface for Internet connection?

Here is my situation: I have two RPi 3s, one is used for miscellaneous applications (mostly ham radio) and the second is a dedicated NTP/GPS-based server. Both have wi-fi capability and both are running fairly current versions of Raspian. Either one, as a stand-alone machine, can connect to the Inte...

No Sleeping After VNC

I am running a fairly recent level of Raspian Jessie on an RPi3. When I walk away from the computer for a few minutes, it goes into “sleep mode” where my monitor blanks out and the brightness level drops to about 25 percent. That is what it always has been doing. However, if I VNC into it from my iP...

Was recently looking for a way to do exactly what darkbibble wanted and came across his this thread. How to make icon to launch an app?

Hi - running Raspian on a Pi 3 and have a relatively newbie question. I have an app along with a folder containing several required files residing in another folder in my home directory. Question About GPS/NTP Server on RPi 3

If you are up to speed on how NTP servers work and how to configure them, please read on! Folks, several months ago I purchased one of the GPS boards offered by Adafruit. I installed it on an RPi 3 with a fresh copy of Raspian. Per an article I found on the web I got a GPS-based, PPS NTP server (STR...

Re: GPS on Breadboard - now what?

I've ordered a Pi Plate from Adafruit - I think this ought to do the trick for me, although my existing clear case top may not fit. But that is secondary at the moment. If the Pi Plate works and I can get this breadboard and ribbin cable out of the picture, I can address the case issue later. Thanks...

Re: GPS on Breadboard - now what?

Actually, I was rather hoping that someone might be able to suggest a small board that could be plugged directly into the GPIO "stack" on top of the Pi. I have no problem with soldering (been a ham radio op for 52 years), but a pluggable solution would be my preference.

Thanks for the input, though!

GPS on Breadboard - now what?

Hi All - I've successfully installed the Ultimate GPS via a breadboard, turned my RPi 3 into an NTP server with PPS, and have my other RPi 3 connected to it via Ethernet. Working nicely. However, having that breadboard lying on the desk, with it's jumpers hanging out, and that ribbon cable running i...

Ultimate GPS - Need Help With NTP

Hi All - I just installed the Ultimate GPS module on a brand new RPi3 that has a fresh copy of the NOOBS Raspian on it. I installed it via UART, not USB. I have the external antenna connection on it. All seems to be working OK - getting the red light flashing about every 15 seconds or so. During ins...
